oh that's gorgeous. how big is it now?
that is the thing i had planed on doing. lap size but ran out of the blue fabrics.
The final size of your quilt will depend on what you want to do with it. If you want a wallhanging, then any size will do. If you want/need a bed quilt, then you will need to add borders, or possibly another row of the design in a different color around the blue....a color that will compliment the quilt. Adding borders to achieve a larger size will sometimes look like that is exactly what you did, so you have to be careful.

It would make a beautiful wall hanging as is!
I like it as a wall hanging.

I think it would be a beautiful wallhanging

There are other fabrics you could introduce to make that larger...you don't need more of the exact same ones. Marbles and tonal prints work well. Fusions are beautiful, Complements are another nice group.
I think it would make a fabulous wall hanging or table topper. It's lovely.
I would leave it as a wallhanging. Since it is only 28" you would have a long way to go to make it bed size. How about making another one with the intention of making it a bed quilt. Adding borders just to make it bigger would be tacky and would require tons of creative quilting. It is beautiful as is.

Beautiful
I would leave it as is...it looks finished now...beautiful too!
It's beautiful the way it is. What is the name of the block?
As a wall hanging it is beautiful as it is.
If you want it to be more like a lap quilt, you would need to remove your two borders. Use your white and make borders with the top and bottom wider than the sides. Then add next border making the top and bottom wider than the sides again. That way you increase length a little at a time. Draw it out on paper and you will see what I mean. You would also add an extra between top and bottom borders to fill in. Just make sure to draw it out first and make sure it looks right. |
Try turning it with points vertical and add side triangles to a point-on-point effect. That will make it larger and not so noticably as it would if you added straight borders. Your beautiful carpenter's star will stand out!

Good luck and keep us posted with pics, please. |
Smaller (12" maybe), scrappy stars with the same color borders would work just fine.

You don't say how big it is but if it's big enough how about a bed throw. I have this w/a quilt that isn't big enough to go down the sides. Then you can chose a bedspread to go under it that would compliment it; even a white one would look great.
beautiful ~~~~~~~ Make a wallhanging if it even comes close to co-ordination somewhere in your home.
I would leave it as a wall hanging. If you add too much more on the outside, your center may start looking small.
Looks great as is! Table topper, throw, whatever.
I would use it for a table topper, depending on what size it is... and just leave it the way it is but use a dark binding.
Very pretty..put a sleeve on it and it'll be a beautiful wallhanging!!
It looks like a great wall hanging or table topper.
Would make beautiful wall hanging.
can you find a blue that would coordinate nicely? It could go either way, I see a little more border for a nice lapsize...
Very pretty, hope you can find some fabric to complement it to make it larger. Nice work.

I think it's perfect just the way it is.
It's beautiful. If you really want it for a lap quilt. Check the manufacturer online and see if you can order some more of the blue. If not, there are other blues that would work just fine. Good Luck! I love it, whether you choose to leave it as a wall hanging, pillow, etc.
It is very beautiful no matter what you decide. Great colors!
I think it would make a beautiful wall hanging.
You could treat it like a round robin but I really like it just the way it is.
