Jennifer22206 07-05-2011 10:24 AM

oh that's gorgeous. how big is it now?

sahm4605 07-05-2011 10:25 AM

that is the thing i had planed on doing. lap size but ran out of the blue fabrics.

Buckeye Rose 07-05-2011 10:27 AM

The final size of your quilt will depend on what you want to do with it. If you want a wallhanging, then any size will do. If you want/need a bed quilt, then you will need to add borders, or possibly another row of the design in a different color around the blue....a color that will compliment the quilt. Adding borders to achieve a larger size will sometimes look like that is exactly what you did, so you have to be careful.

how about another blue maybe a shade lighter that way the center stands out with its own fabric

katinkaB 07-05-2011 10:33 AM

It would make a beautiful wall hanging as is!

jrharry 07-05-2011 10:39 AM

I like it as a wall hanging.

erstan947 07-05-2011 10:45 AM

alikat110 07-05-2011 10:51 AM

Me too. 8->

katier825 07-05-2011 02:45 PM

There are other fabrics you could introduce to make that larger...you don't need more of the exact same ones. Marbles and tonal prints work well. Fusions are beautiful, Complements are another nice group.

Raggiemom 07-05-2011 03:21 PM

I think it would make a fabulous wall hanging or table topper. It's lovely.

snipforfun 07-05-2011 03:39 PM

I would leave it as a wallhanging. Since it is only 28" you would have a long way to go to make it bed size. How about making another one with the intention of making it a bed quilt. Adding borders just to make it bigger would be tacky and would require tons of creative quilting. It is beautiful as is.

blueangel 07-05-2011 08:35 PM

Beautiful

magpiefeather 07-05-2011 08:38 PM

I would leave it as is...it looks finished now...beautiful too!

sewmagic 07-06-2011 04:04 AM

It's beautiful the way it is. What is the name of the block?

sc-sunshine 07-06-2011 04:47 AM

As a wall hanging it is beautiful as it is.
If you want it to be more like a lap quilt, you would need to remove your two borders. Use your white and make borders with the top and bottom wider than the sides. Then add next border making the top and bottom wider than the sides again. That way you increase length a little at a time. Draw it out on paper and you will see what I mean. You would also add an extra between top and bottom borders to fill in. Just make sure to draw it out first and make sure it looks right.

liese 07-06-2011 04:58 AM

Try turning it with points vertical and add side triangles to a point-on-point effect. That will make it larger and not so noticably as it would if you added straight borders. Your beautiful carpenter's star will stand out!

I like all of the suggestions so far-wall hanging, table topper. For a bed you could have this block in the middle and place it on point and design blocks, etc around it.
Good luck and keep us posted with pics, please.

margecam52 07-06-2011 05:43 AM

Smaller (12" maybe), scrappy stars with the same color borders would work just fine.

romanojg 07-06-2011 05:51 AM

You don't say how big it is but if it's big enough how about a bed throw. I have this w/a quilt that isn't big enough to go down the sides. Then you can chose a bedspread to go under it that would compliment it; even a white one would look great.

Dianemarie 07-06-2011 05:54 AM

beautiful ~~~~~~~ Make a wallhanging if it even comes close to co-ordination somewhere in your home.

KarenS 07-06-2011 07:19 AM

I would leave it as a wall hanging. If you add too much more on the outside, your center may start looking small.

grannypat7925 07-06-2011 07:25 AM

Looks great as is! Table topper, throw, whatever.

belmer 07-06-2011 08:22 AM

I would use it for a table topper, depending on what size it is... and just leave it the way it is but use a dark binding.

MelodyWB 07-06-2011 08:24 AM

Very pretty..put a sleeve on it and it'll be a beautiful wallhanging!!

roadrunr 07-06-2011 09:11 AM

It looks like a great wall hanging or table topper.

Margie 07-06-2011 09:28 AM

Would make beautiful wall hanging.

fabric whisperer 07-06-2011 09:31 AM

can you find a blue that would coordinate nicely? It could go either way, I see a little more border for a nice lapsize...

luce321 07-06-2011 09:55 AM

Very pretty, hope you can find some fabric to complement it to make it larger. Nice work.

Ask here for matching pieces of fabric! Trade?

teacherbailey 07-06-2011 10:27 AM

I think it's perfect just the way it is.

Tweety2911 07-06-2011 12:04 PM

It's beautiful. If you really want it for a lap quilt. Check the manufacturer online and see if you can order some more of the blue. If not, there are other blues that would work just fine. Good Luck! I love it, whether you choose to leave it as a wall hanging, pillow, etc.

babyboomerquilter 07-06-2011 12:05 PM

It is very beautiful no matter what you decide. Great colors!

countrycottage 07-06-2011 02:25 PM

I think it would make a beautiful wall hanging.

MadQuilter 07-06-2011 02:27 PM

You could treat it like a round robin but I really like it just the way it is.
