I am intrigued by I Spy quilts. I think they would be great for visual discrimination, vocabulary development and lots of fun as a game for toddlers. I love doing zoo animals for babies...anything animal...kids and parents seem to like them a lot...

This is one I made last year for a co-worker. Very simple, just nine-patches and sail boats. The alternating blocks are half square triangles but the pattern just asked for plain blocks. And the piano key border was just to make it bigger. It is 64" x 64"

I'm making a MCW quilt for my 5 yo GS. I'm using denim for the circles and a fire truck print for the squares inside. It's very cute.

One of the easiest quilts for a boy is to find bits of fabric with cars, trucks, construction kinds of vehicles....
Make a nine-patch with those. However, the center square will have an embroidered tool that you have done.
I sashed the quilt with red.

I did one of these for my newest grandson over 14 years ago and he STILL has it on his bed....altho, now it needs some restitching. LOL

(I found all sorts of tool pictures in color books and redrew them for the tool square. )

There was one shown on here the other day that was a lightening bolt. That would make a wonderful boy quilt, too.

I have some experience with this. I'm a mom of five and three are boys so I have made quite a few boy quilts. I have done the young eye spy with blocks and sashing. I did a homespun and old time sports theme trip around the world. I did a Halloween one because one of my sons love Halloween. i just did a Army theme quilt because his was the I spy and hes now 13 so hes outgrown that one...he still has it on his bed tho. My oldest son wants another quilt and hes requesting an outlined star quilt he liked the stained glass effect...but it will not be a bright one. I love homespun for boys because I think they are timeless but my boys have all different tastes. I also did a small dresser topper for my son with blocks that I call ninja star blocks and all the boys love those. Here's a picture of the last one.
