This is my first time posting, so I'm a little nervous! I want to make a "cat" quilt for my granddaughter. I have lots of cat fabric but don't know what pattern to use to really set off the fabric. Any suggestions would be very helpful.

To show off lots of fabric, maybe a 4 or 9 patch or pinwheels. Those seem to be popular in the Quilts for Kids book.

You can do a simple 6 or 5 inch square quilt with paw print border. That would be quick and easy. Or are you looking for a harder pattern?

Could you post a picture of the fabric. I need to see it, let it "speak" to me... :)

If you have one fabric you want to use as a focus, you might try a Warm Wishes pattern.

No need to be nervous posting we are a very friendly and helpful bunch! I am so glad you gave it a shot. OK given my screen name you can imagine I have made cat quilts galore! In fact most of the quilts I have made either have a cat block or a cat fabric in them! Here is one I did called Kitties Dancing with the Stars that I used a cat focus fabric. And an attic windows quilt called Kitties in the window that I also used cat theme fabric. There are also tons of cat patterns out there that are super easy to piece so I have included some pics of those as well.

This is a great thread and perhaps others can post pics of their 'kitty cat' quilts. I would love to see plus would help give pointers to Terry. :-)
Feline fanatic...yours are wonderful!

Aw, AWESOME kitty quilts!

pollyjvan9 03-05-2011 08:39 AM

If you have or can go buy a childs coloring book with simple animal pictures to color they make adorable applique patterns, then you can add alternate pieced blocks or plain blocks. Lots of free patterns on the internet.

carolaug 03-05-2011 08:40 AM

I love them all!!!

I like the attic window or snowball pattern to highlight the fabric.

If you enter warm wishes up at top in search, it will show lots of folks WW quilts. Looks like an easy pattern.

Thanks for all the great suggestions, now to decide which one to do!!! I will try and post pix (never done it before) when I am finished. You guys are awesome, love this board!

Here is a free pattern for Warm wishes...PDFhttp://www.quiltmaker.com/content_do...DoubleSize.pdf

scrappylouisa 03-06-2011 06:19 AM

I'm making one using Square in a Square 2 from quilterscache.com. I used different cat fabric for the center square and matched the borders to it.

MissQuilter 03-06-2011 06:26 AM

I have made four tops of the Pam Bono cat design. It is cute. I will try to post a picture in a bit. It is a pieced cat, and I only did 12 blocks per top, rather than her huge top with 28 or something. I copied one made at my LQS.

mcbride4362 03-06-2011 06:27 AM

I love your quilt that says "Attic Windows"...I have seen them a couple of times on this site and love that design. Can you tell me where you got the pattern or send me the instructions? Have a GREAT day!

Scrap Happy 03-06-2011 06:29 AM

Welcome! Don't be nervous this is such a friendly and helpful group of quilters. Please let us know what you decide on. Would love to see a picture when you finish it :)

This is not my quilt - (I wish it were). I took these pictures at Quiltopia one year. I was SO impressed with this design. It's called Topsy-Turvy Cats by Mary Mandell. I understand the same pattern is also in a book called CopyCat Quilts.

Go to www.bellaonline.com, she has some paper piece "dress up" kitties. Really cute. If you can't get to it, PM me.

SewMomma66 03-06-2011 09:23 AM

I love the one on homespun. Did you have a pattern or did you create that one? I have been searching for a quilt for my dad and this one would be perfect.
