I would use the light blue. I think it would look great by picking up the light blue in your quilt.

I would use the same coloured material as the last border...

I vote for the dark blue. I think the cream would take away from the lovely design of the stars. My 2 cents.

Food for thought - I don't use light color bindings, because they show wear and dirt quicker than medium or dark bindings. I usually try to match the last border - unless the binding is the final 'frame' for the quilt. Your quilt is beautiful!

I would use the darkest blue fabric for the binding. The cream will look great. It's all according to what look you want. :D

I think I would use the cream color. I love the quilt.

I love your quilt and I love blues. You did a fantastic job on it. I think you made the right choice if the person you made it for loved it.

Did you take a pic of it before you gave it away? Would love to see how it turned out.

I agree...Cream would make it pop. Beautiful quilt...good luck :)

Beautiful quilt. Did you post a picture of it with the binding on?

Countrygirl 03-07-2009 07:24 PM

Sorry I did not take a pic of it with the binding on it. I will ask the owner of the quilt to bring it so I can take a pic of it. I enjoy all of you so much. I lost my mother 4 yrs ago (she was only 53) to breast cancer and I have really missed having someone to ask questions to. She was so talanted at sewing and quilting. I really wish I would have spent more time with her when she was able to sew. So thank you all for your support and advice.

I haven't read the whole thread yet, but while the thought is still with me , I'll share what one quilt's directions had me to do for a pieced border. Use strips WOF) in all the fabrics of the series as used in the quilt. Sew them together to form a piece of fabric (say, 12 or 18 inches wide). When that piece of fabric is formed, slice it in strips the width desired and piece the ends until the desired length is reached. Is that clear as mud?

Clear as a bell, Gail - I love pieced bindings and this is a great idea!

How did you quilt it? Very good job

nana to 7 boys 03-08-2009 06:48 PM

stay with the border color it is beautiful and you dont want to chop it up you have enough color

Deb G 03-09-2009 07:35 AM

There's alot going on already with the colors and pattern and a plain dark blue border would really keep the focus on the top of the quilt and keep it from looking to "busy".

What I do is put the quilt on the bed and leave it there for a couple days. Every time I walk by the room I look at it to see how it looks, as it is, and it gives me an idea of what I think I should use for a border. Sometimes looking at it from a distance helps. Atleast it does for me.
