Need advice on what type of binding to use... dark blue, light blue or a cream. Thanks for the help.
I think the cream would really set it off!
Thanks that is what my mother in law said. I am new to quilting and still have a problem with color choices.
I would use the cream sure is a beautiful quilt and thanks for sharing
What would really be cool, but a WHOLE LOT more work  , would be a pieced binding like the pieced border! :D
I love blue and the stars....good work :D
Lovely quilt, I would go for the light blue of the second from bottom star on the right.

If you want the border to POP do it in a lighter color, but if you want it to blend in do it darker.. Not much help was I  What color is the back ? I usually try to match the binding to the back..
Love the colors and the design  :-) Sharon |
I would go with the cream binding.

First of all, gorgeous quilt you made! Kudos! Give yourself a pat, and all that stuff.
That being said, I would go with the darkest blue. I think it would frame the quilt nicely. Since the bindings get worn more, I think a light color would show dirt more. The dark blue will still set the quilt off nicely, but at least hide some of the dirt that is just going to happen with wear. JMHO! M |
I think I'd use the dark blue for the binding.
And the quilt is just beautiful!!! |
I'd like the dark blue best.
I would choose dark blue for the binding, as that makes the entire border a frame for the rest of the quilt. Also, binding takes more of a beating than the rest of the quilt, and a dark binding won't show dirt as easily either short-term or long-term.
I would go with the dark blue for the same reasons MissTreated and Prism99 posted.
Beatiful quilt! |
That is one beautiful quilt!!! I like the darker blue or matching the outside border. Great work.

Beautiful quilt!! I think I'd vote for the darker blue too.
:D |
Your quilt is beautiful! I would go with the dark blue binding.
i vote for the cream.
Beautiful quilt. My vote is for a dark blue. Personally I don't like to go too light on the binding cause it seems that the binding gets dirty faster and would show the dirt more.
You have made a beautiful quilt, I think any colour would do this justice it's fantastic!!
I always match the binding to the back or the last border. But that's just my preference. The cream would look great too. I love the quilt. It's gorgeous.
You've made a beautiful quilt and you want people to see the quilt. A light binding will draw the eyes away from the center of the quilt. A darker binding will keep the eyes focused on the main part of the quilt.
Beautiful stars! I would go with dark blue, that way the focus stays to the center-you want those stars to be admired as they should
My vote is for dark too. The quilt looks wonderful!!!
Looks Great!!
How about a scrappy binding to match that pieded border?? |
Gorgeous quilt!! I would say dark blue for the binding.
Your quilt is beautiful and I love the colors you used. I would use cream binding. Wow, you're almost finished!
Beautiful quilt. I hope I get to that point someday. I have been working on a top that I have been hand appliqued and I feel like it is awful looking at everyones work (you gotta start somewhere tho my grandmother always said as long as you keep sewing you get better with each stitch) I am still stitching.lol My cross stitch work is pretty awsome but still got a longgg way to go with this quilting. I do not know enough to suggest anything but your quilt looks GREAT
I would go for a blending blue, even what you use for border. I think light binding would detract fromhe beauty of the inner quilt and your lovely work.
I vote for the cream!
If the quilt is going to be used and not shown, I would vote for a darker color, so it wouldn't show dirt as much. If you plan to show it, then the lighter color would make it pop more.
You say you have trouble with colors, but the colors you chose for the quilt are lovely. I think you did a great job! As you can see, everyone has an opinion, and well, they are like belly buttons, every has one. But as good of a job as you did with the stars, I say trust yourself. You obviously have a better eye than you think. |
I'd go with the darker blue because a lighter binding would take your eye away from the beautiful quilt. The edge of quilt is sometimes dragged on the floor and a darker fabric wouldn't show the dirt as much. It's really pretty.

It is such a beautiful quilt that I think the light cream would distract from the wonderful stars. I vote for the dark blue also.
Have you made a decision?
Yea, congrats! Beautifgul quilt and nice job done! I would go with the dark blue for a binding!
My Guild tells us to use a dark color. The thinking is that you can see where the quilt ends and the wall starts.
I have followed this advice and am happier with it than the ones which I bound in a light color, before joining Guild and knowing what to do. I also think the darker color sets off the quilt better; wall hanging or bed quilt. Marta |
The quilt is beautiful. I would go with the med or dk blue binding. So it doesn't take away from the center .
I used a cream with navy blue stars. The person I made for loved the quilt. Thank you all so much for your advice. I have learned so much in the last few weeks on this site.
I would go with the dark blue. Cream would take my vision away from the center.
