need help - block was framed up

Hi, I'm really not sure how to explain what I'm looking for, but here goes. I need a picture (or pattern) of the way a block was framed up. The block sq was, I think plain, white, maybe. It was outlined with jelly roll strips, but not even, staggered. I don't know if I'm explaining well. I thought I saved a picture, but for the life of me, can't find it. I'm sorry I sound confusing, but if I could explain more, then I could figure it out-lol-Anyone have any idea what I'm looking for?

Not much to go on, can you sketch it out? I'm sure someone here could identify it.

Was it a curved Log Cabin?

I think I remember one like you described. The one I am thinking has the surrounding strips probably in 2 pieces to go around each side of square. Rather than to fit they were extended and put on with a partial seam. So it was width of square plus the one side strip. Hope that makes as much sense to you as it does in my head

Was it something like this? It was made based on an idea for using 5" charm squares I think, but I made it out of a bunch of squares. I can find the original thread (think it was by Moira??), but this is what my project looked like.

What a pretty quilt, Iceblossom!!

Maybe a little more explanation would help us to help you. can you find a picture in a quilt magazine or draw out the block and put a picture on this board? Good luck to you

I found a picture. It's not the original picture I liked, but I think it's like cjsews describes. Each block has a 2 1/2 in strip around, starting with a partial seam. All the strips are the same length, if the block is square.
I am wanting to use the strips around the outer edge of sayings and bible verse sqs and rectangles. I will group using 3 (2 sq and a rectangle per set block or 4 sqs to a set block, before I surround it with the 2 1/2 inch strips. I hope you understand and are still with me.
I will separate the 2 sqs and rectangle, or the 4 squares, with a narrow strip in order for them all to fit. These strips will be 1 3/4 between the sqs and 1 1/4 between the 2 sqs and rectangle. Will it matter? Will it look odd?
I am trying to group them 3 and 4 in a block measuring about 10 1/2 or 11 inch before I surround with the 2 1/2 inch strips. Will it look odd if the strips separating the verses are a different size?

Iceblossom that is one pretty quilt, in bright colors like I am fond of.

Jordan and toverly, this is not a wise crack, so please don't get offended.
However, it's so simple, if I could have remembered how to sketch it or had a picture of what I wanted, I would know how to do it. Most of the times I can figure things out by a picture, I just couldn't find one. I just remembered it framed up each block and the strips were staggered or off set.

Thank all of you for helping.I will try to take a picture when I get started, so you can see what I fail to explain very well.

Was it the Floating Block thread recently? That one was framing with a partial seam -- lol of course I have pictures in there too :p

Is this somewhat like you are looking for? https://www.scrapish.com/wonky-log-cabin-block.html

Here are the pieces/verses I want to frame up into blocks. They are squares and rectangles. I am putting 3 or 4 together in each block. I was looking for a picture of a square framed up like this. I only found one on the web because I didn't know what this framed up block was called. Anyway, you do start with a partial seam and when you place the blocks together, it almost looks like a 4P or woven in the corners. Thanks for all y'all's help. It was fun looking at all the blocks y'all suggested and I do appreciate the help. If anyone does know what it's called, let me know!

It looks good the way you have it laid out. I know there is a pattern out there that had similar framing, but I can't seem to find it. The spring fabrics just seem to be happy, happy.

I'm not sure I am liking the colored strips within the scripture verses. It may be too distracting, but I really like how the blocks outer strips frame it up. What do you think, please, use color strips within the blocks or not? I only have 3 stitched at this point and I don't mind ripping now, before I get more done. Give me your opinion, but I know which way I'm leaning, now that I see it on the screen.

Not sure if this is what you are after, but Jordan Fabrics has a free pattern and a video that uses a panel cut apart and worked into a quilt. The blocks are different sizes and she shows how to make the sashings to fit together. This method may work for your verses.
Anyway, here is a link to her free pattern page.....look for the "panel quilt" almost to the bottom of the page.

I'm liking it just the way you are doing it, Toogie. I think it will be lovely when you are done.

If I see what is concerning you, I think the inner dividers may be just a tad darker in value than what you used for the framing squares -- I like it that way. But you might try laying over some of the fabrics you used for the outer borders in the middle to see if you like it better, or maybe use some of those middle fabrics around some of the larger blocks to further balance the fabrics.

Yes, please I need a picture, so many ideas.

I like the colorful strips. To me, they set off the verses and separate them. The Bible is about loving and enduring through hardships. This quilt says I can handle anything and be happy about it.

Rhonda K 04-16-2020 03:56 AM

I like the strips between the verse blocks. It sets each verse apart and make them stand alone. I vote for the divider strips. It's going to be a pretty quilt!

molly oldham 04-16-2020 04:24 AM

I like the way the colored strips separate the verses. That will be a beautiful quilt.

molly oldham 04-16-2020 04:31 AM

Thank you Murphey224 for the link to Jordan fabrics. I was looking for something like that.

Jordan 04-16-2020 04:44 AM

I really like the colored strips between the verses. I think it sets off each verse and gives everyone to read and enjoy each verse. I think you are getting there on your search of the pattern you had an idea for.

mmunchkins 04-16-2020 08:05 AM

Is that a woven latticework pattern?. I just made one similar to that, but only used two colors for the frames.
