I bought this fabric Black Friday at my LQS 50% off sale. Intend to use to make Lover's Knot quilt for a wedding gift. Well, forgot the pattern called for 4 dif colors - 1 light, 1 med light, 1 dark, 1 med dark. So, need one more color? What do you think? An off white? WOW? and before I start cutting which for border? binding? I seem to be having trouble visualizing this project for some reason - book shows so many options and not sure if would be better to make the background dark or light. any feedback would be so appreciated - no quilting/sewing friends around me to consult with!

I think a DP-9 would look really super with these fabrics. Love the dark teal, teal is my most favorite color.

loves_2_quilt 02-05-2011 06:56 AM

Try to match the light blue in the print. If you can find another print with the light blue and "pink" it it that might be the best choice.

Sandy-lou 02-05-2011 06:58 AM

I would use the peachy colour that is in the blue material at the front, i think it would offset the blues beautifully.

Vicki W 02-05-2011 07:00 AM

I agree a WOW or a Cream on White would make a good light.

I too would go with the peachy color.

Scrap Happy 02-05-2011 07:02 AM

You could take fabric with you when getting your other fabric to audition how the other choices look.

amma 02-05-2011 07:03 AM

I like the cream on white suggestion :D:D:D

I agree.

If you can find the right shade - the peach color would be my choice. - On a different subject - love your on-line name - there is a series of children's books about "Fancy Nancy" which are a lot of fun to read!

janedee 02-05-2011 07:29 AM

think I would go for a peachy colour as in the blue fabric showing

will have to look those books up! actually have a piece of flannel fabric with pics of girls and has Fancy Nancy written on it - have never decided what to use it for! Fun to look at tho when going thru stash!

irishrose 02-05-2011 08:13 AM

A tiny light peach print or a tone on tone effect in peach would be my choice.

I am in the same camp! that was my gut response when I saw the three. Just a little something to make it pop!

EagarBeez 02-05-2011 09:27 AM

I agree with everyone else, a peach would work great

I agree

I picked up on the peacy color too. Off white would be nice, to bad u cant pop it by adding a liitle bright orange? but that gives u more colors than u use. I don't think I would want a 4th of the quilt peachy or orange........

hobo2000 02-05-2011 09:48 AM

Having made several of these, I opt for the cream. And make it the "knot".Use the beige border and the dark for the binding.

sewcrafty 02-05-2011 09:51 AM

Here's a lovers knot with 3 fabrics

Me too.

Scissor Queen 02-05-2011 10:15 AM

I agree with the peachy color. I would also try and find one that has a little pattern to it since you already have two marble prints.

Vicki in Austin 02-05-2011 10:26 AM

I go with the peachy color too. And I prefer "light" backgrounds with "dark" borders, but of course it is each individual's choice. I love the colors you chose.

My advise also. The peachy/salmon would make the whole thing pop!

I think the fabrics are perfect. Teal, dark teal and light teal are my most favorite colors and I believe that is a coral in there(?). That is the colors in our bedroom. Beautiful. I think the colors together are very soothing and if you put in a white or off white it'll be too stark. I love it just the way you have it. Edie

sewmagic 02-06-2011 04:46 AM

I see some peach or pink in the paisley fabric. I would use this color as a contrast to the others.

If you're going to do the 4 color then I agree with a cream. If you use the peachy/orange color, its going to become the focus color I'm afraid, unless its just a tint.

Jagsd3 02-06-2011 05:30 AM

I think the Orange or the Peachy, to me it looks orange. Is it more orange or peach? just curious? It think it it quite pretty!
Anyways, I think it would really make your quilt pop. I also would suggest maybe doing a search on here and checking out the different backgrounds choice that were used, depending on which way you choose, to me would depend on which way you choose to make the background. Hope that made since.
Beautiful fabrics!

i've made a couple table runners from that pattern. the first one, the fabrics went together beautifully, but just didn't seem to have enough contrast...

the second one i used colors that had more contrast & i liked that one much better...

that being said, both receipients loved theirs.

I agree completely and teal is also my favorite color. I suggest you make a border with the lighter one and bind with the darker one on a DP-9. How stunning that would be. Take a picture and send when you are done.

P.S. You sure DO have lots of quilting friends nearby to ask :) :) :)

Dianne1 02-06-2011 07:28 AM

Beautiful fabric and colors.

inletjerry 02-06-2011 08:00 AM

I have that same printed fabric, and the orange in it would be great to make the quilt pop. Love that fabric, made a purse out of mine.

matraina 02-06-2011 08:10 AM

I'm not good about color (I only know whether I like it when I see it together, and I love the 3 you have.)

petpainter 02-06-2011 08:13 AM

I'm with the peachy color, too!

sandisquiltedtouch 02-06-2011 08:56 AM

I really think you need something to make it pop and it is hard to see the colors but use fabrics with different size prints. To many plain fabrics will make it look blah. I rarely use one color and almost never use a solid.

njgrl4evr 02-06-2011 09:55 AM

I'd use white or the peachy color in the print fabric. Depends on how comfortable you are with the peach.
I would probably use the white myself, just not that daring to use the peach.

Shirlrh 02-06-2011 10:03 AM

I agree with the peachy color group. Would be so beautiful. Please post your pics when it is finished!
