This is the double wedding ring my grandmother made nearly 100 years ago. Hand quilted and hand pieced. Hers is in bright colors, but I could see these same colors done in pastels or even a monochromatic choice. I think it would be very pretty. I donated this quilt to a museum. It was too precious to use and too beautiful to be left in my cedar chest where no one could see it.

Oh, that would go beautiful with my home decor. I love the antique type quilts

Some great suggestions, the neutrals would be elegant/classic but, If you have your heart set on some color.. I'd first find out what color accents she usually leans towards, as in warms (autumn kinda colors or cools ( blues-violets etc)..I'd then chose a multitude of "muted" colors in the warms or cools that she prefers..
*If she prefers the warms= off white/cream background
*cools= white background
* or a combo of both
If she doesn't have a preference to warms or cools then I'd choose some basic Primary colors that are more "greyed" down/less bright, which would bring them more toward a neutral state..Which in turn would make them flow with whatever accents she chose in the future...
And If you don't wanna mess with any of this.. Show her some pictures of different color combos (maybe of art, so she doesn't know about the possible quilt) let her pic out what she'd prefer on her wall lol..Hope any of this helps (smile)

Vanilla pudding tones would be my choice. Alex Anderson often uses the tones in her quilts. I think she calls them Neutrals.

I did at one time see a Double Wedding Ring Quilt that was done with a cream background and all of the rest done in beiges and tans, it was really kind of neat.

Do you take many pictures of her in her house? If so, look back on them and see if you can accurately see the colors in the accents she's put up. That might give you an even better idea of what she likes.
