Anne, it's not that hard. If you want bars that are 2 inches by 8 inches, make the first bar with an 8 1/2 inch strip with a 2 1/2 inch square. Stitch and flip. Next bar is a 61/2 inch strip with a 4 1/2 inch strip. Stitch and flip. Next one is 4 1/2 inch with 6 1/2 inch and so on. Basically, imagine a bar with a HST inserted. The HST steps down a step in each bar.

Here is a video and transcript, of one take on the pattern. |
Just remember two things. 1) To finish at 8”, the total length of the 2 strips in each row will always be 11”. 2) the diagonal lines change direction: first up the mountain, then down the mountain. The Jenny Doan tutorial doesn’t use strips; it uses big HST, cuts them apart then puts them back together.

That's very striking, like it a lot

Looks like a version of Delectable Mountains. There's a few different versions out there, some free. The one by Bonnie Hunter is called Scrappy Mountain Majesties. Here's a couple to check out and maybe get you started.
