Need help with easiest way to cut

I copied this pic from QB some time ago. I have lots of blacks & whites now and want to try this patter. Not sure who posted the original photo so can't ask them. Seems like smaller rectangles are sewn to longer ones in a sew-and-flip manner. What sizes should pieces be cut if I want a 2X8" finished strips. Just need to know the easiest way to cut with the least ampunt of waste. Thanks. anne

If you are using 1/4 inch seams you will need to add 1//2 inch to each measurement.

I'm not sure how long I should cut rectangles before adding the piece that will be sewn and flipped. Can't wrap my head around it.

Looks like a version of Delectable Mountains. There's a few different versions out there, some free. The one by Bonnie Hunter is called Scrappy Mountain Majesties. Here's a couple to check out and maybe get you started.

The pattern is Wave Length from American Patchwork and Quilting magazine June 2017.

Here's a better look at the pattern. It appears to me that the block is 10 strips wide and two strips high. It has a 1/2 square triangle on the end of each of the four center strips, then the triangle gets longer and longer as it moves up the "mountain" on each side of the center. Then, in the next block, it moves down the "mountain" to the center block.

At least that is how I would describe it. I've found if you'll draw it on graph paper, you'll figure out how to do it. At least, that's how it works for me.

Anne, it's not that hard. If you want bars that are 2 inches by 8 inches, make the first bar with an 8 1/2 inch strip with a 2 1/2 inch square. Stitch and flip. Next bar is a 61/2 inch strip with a 4 1/2 inch strip. Stitch and flip. Next one is 4 1/2 inch with 6 1/2 inch and so on. Basically, imagine a bar with a HST inserted. The HST steps down a step in each bar.

If you are interested in the pattern Cattude mentioned you can look for it on APQshop.com. You can order digital or paper copies of the quilts from their magazine. Personally, I like a pattern to follow, let someone is do the figuring!

I would check out the pattern in the link suzisews posted from quiltville. Make your blocks and just rearrange the strips to scrap it up.

It seems like you could construct these blocks by making a large HST and cutting it into strips, shuffling the strips, and sewing them back together.
