Another option would be to use borax (100 mule team) in the wash water to rid the comforter of its bad odor.
|
I really appreciate all these great ideas!! I'll have this comforter back on their bed in no time! :-D

I like to use a combination of vinegar and baking soda---lots of it. Sometimes if it's really bad it will take washing it a couple of times but the funny thing is if you dry it between washings the odor comes out better.

I sent a link to the post to Jenny so she can decide what to do. It's all mended! I finished it last night. Wanna see? :-D
I decided to turn two squares inside out to make a patch to cover one ripped area. I quilted a bit over it but it's very bulky under there, so I kept it to a minumum. Plus I'm thinking I needed a smaller needle to work with this fabric. I used a sharp. That's the first two pics. The last pic is of the fixed corner. Again, I turned two squares into a patch, but then folded it and sewed along the bottom and turned it again to snug right into the corner. Worked fine. As Jenny said--the corner won't be seen much anyway. She picked the perfect color to use! |
Nice mending job - the color does blend perfectly.

Such pretty fabric--glad mom could come to the rescue!

I think you did a marvalous job!
I 2d and 3d what the others say about the laundry mat and maybe hanging it on the line |
