bias binding using a red and white striped fabric will work. Cutting on the bias will give you that diagonal stripe.

Because I already knew I did not have a red strip in my stash I was going to do the pieced border. As I contemplated the time it would take--it had to be done for delivery tonight--I turned and spied a stripe in my stash that would work great. I also wanted the stripe wider, but it was late at night and I messed it up. But it is done!
So here is my project. I think it is a little blank and I'd like to applique some candy and candy canes around the gingerbreads, but it is made to the specifications of an 8 year old. I think she will love it. Thank you all for your help. I couldn't have done it without you. |
It looks good. Maybe when the two of you visit, you and she can make any changes she wants. The stripe really does set it off. Joyce in DE

It's really cute. She'll be so proud that you followed her pattern suggestion.

Looks great! i like the thin red strip. I was going to suggest that you might luck out and find a diagonal red and white stripe.
