I have never made a signature strip or block before how do you make one? What size fabric, and so on.

I think keyboard would work then we could put it on the back. What do you think. 5.5 x 3.5

Karie is suggesting a strip of fabric, 3.5" x 5.5", signed. then Justeena can join the strips and add it to the quilt, back or front.

BTW, Schnookie, cute avatar!

If you do the keyboard... is this the size mention in "white" material.....not sure what is required for this, however what a "neat idea" keep us posted on this. My letter and envelope went out today :)

I'm in. Any white or ? What info? Screen name, real name and location would be good. Located in middle along the 5.5 length? (I'd draw a picture but don't have a scanner :() Let us know and we're on it! I'm excited!

karielt 06-16-2010 10:16 AM

Ok let me know what you think... I say a light or med color fabric 5.5 x 3.5. This way it will still be fun colors. Put your Screen name, Real name and location on it. For those of you that want to.

Schnookie 06-16-2010 11:36 AM

Thanks Quilt Mom, that is Jimi my 10 year old Airedale, when he was a puppy. I just love my fur baby!

I am in also. I had my package ready to mail but haven't had a car to take it to the post...so I will make one 3.5 x 5.5 and stick it in and get it to the post by Friday. Oh I cannot wait to see what she does with this all...so much fun!

laparshall 06-16-2010 12:00 PM

Just to be clear, the key board border when sewn together will be 5" wide, right?

karielt 06-16-2010 12:40 PM

3.5 inches wide 5.5 inches long

That is how I see it...that would be giving her a 1/4 seam allowance all away around.

I'm so happy for her. She looks as if she is wonderland with all of the goodies around her. Love to see what the fabrics look like.

SandyinZ4 06-22-2010 07:28 AM

This is so fun to follow. Yes, please take a pic of all the fabrics laid out and show us. Then we can see the before and after. You are such a sweetie for doing this and great that her mother is in on it, too. Yea! Quilting!

JanetM 06-22-2010 07:32 AM

Look at how cute she is :!: I think it is so wonderful of you to take her under your wing. It looks like quite a few of us sent her fabrics...hooray.

Would love to see more pictures. :-D :-D :-D

Makes me so proud to be a part of such a wonderful group of people willing to step forward and help a young person get started. Keep the pictures coming. I look forward to seeing her progress. I'm sure she will learn more than she expected and with your journey, when she shares with us what she has learned, we too will be learning. Loved seeing how responsive our group was.

jacqstash 06-22-2010 10:31 AM

She looks thrilled and I am so happy for her - a great response - her stash has begun!

Quilt Mom 06-23-2010 05:24 AM

I'm glad she is so excited about learning quilting. As we all know, it's a great outlet for creativity. Hers will soar! Glad we all can help.

polly13 06-23-2010 05:54 AM

Love the blue nailpolish! Looks like quilter's hands already. I look forward to each entry from the summer quilting team.

I'm far behind with reading the quilting board because I had guests from abroad for 3 weeks.Do you still need more fabric ? I would love to send some. If yes, please send me a PM with your address.

ljs317 06-25-2010 09:12 AM

Hi! I love the pics! What is the answer to the sig blocks? I'm in if you are doing it but I don't know if you are or not. So please end my confusion and is it yes or no?
love this!
lisa
p.s. i also didn't know to put my screen name on my package.

karielt 06-25-2010 10:11 AM

A few people have sent the 3.5 x 5.5 blocks and put their names and city on them. If you would like to that would be great if not I have her cutting out 3.5 x5.5 blocks now to put names and places on them so she knows where all the fabric came from and from who we are doing piano strips on the back.

This is going to be so cute and I like the idea of framing the signature blocks with the appropriate fabric. I will get my siggie in the mail shortly. Thanks for doing this, Karie. I hope you're both having fun doing this summer vacation project. :-D

Schnookie 06-28-2010 09:43 PM

Was wondering if you received mine yet?

quilting memaw 07-02-2010 05:16 AM

Maybe I missed it, but what pattern is Justeena planning on doing for the quilt? plain blocks, nine patch, or ?????? So anxious for the pictures of her journey.

Margie

karielt 07-02-2010 10:04 PM

She is doing a scrappy quilt. We started out with one pattern and because some wonderful ladies send larger pieces we chose another patter with all different size blocks. Right now she is scrapbookings all the stories and cutting out 3.5 x 5.5 blocks to do a piano strip on the back with everyones names on it. Some people sent some and for those that havent their name will still be on a block. I'll keep you posted.

texas granny 07-02-2010 10:18 PM

I pm you

Schnookie 07-03-2010 07:50 AM

I'll bet if we tried, some of the rest of us may find a young girl to sponsor too. I'm guessing there would be plenty of girls who would like to learn how to sew and quilt.

burnsk 07-04-2010 04:09 PM

You are so special for doing this.

Deecee 07-16-2010 02:04 PM

I was dropped from this thread and have just now tracked it down. Great to see pics of Justeena opening all her envelopes. Must have been very exciting for her and for yourself. Interested to see next installment.

Gennynut 07-16-2010 06:58 PM
