I just wanted all of you to know we are coming along. It has been slow going but we are working. She had a family reunion and girls camp and I had a death in the family so we are doing what we can. I should have pictures up next week of our progress. Thanks again everyone! :)

SandyinZ4 07-16-2010 08:33 PM

Thanks for the update. Lots of us are running at full speed in the summer and quilting gets shoved to the side. :-( But it will have it's day soon. :-) We will wait for the pictures. What a fun thread this is. P.S. Condolences on your loss.

In this program it teaches them to make goals and learn new skills. . She wants to learn how to sew and also learn about people who quilt and why they quilt. I thought this Board would be the perfect solution. If you would like to help me help her we have come up with something fun. If you had time would you send a 6 inch square of fabric or a couple if you can spare it and also write down on a piece of paper your name where your from and the reason or what got you started sewing and why you are still sewing. She is going to be keeping a scrapbook about her quilt as we build it. If you are interested please PM. She is so excited about this… Her name is Justeena.

Good morning..I am so behind myself on some of these posts..I just this morning came across this one and if it's not too late, would love to send out some blocks if still needed.

I will PM you and if you still need fabric, let me know and it will be on it's way.

Great thing you are doing for this very cute young lady....she looks ecstatic.

WOW - What a lot of work you two are doing before you even start sewing - BUT WHAT WONDERFUL DOCUMENTATION she will have for her first project. So happy to have been able to help! It's very exciting to see how the project is coming along!

I have been wondering the same thing. I know Justina is probably back in school but wondering if you have begun piecing any fabric yet?

karielt 09-07-2010 06:13 AM

We finely have it all cut out I'll get pictures today. Wow working with a busy teen is crazy but we are still moving forward.

Miss Justina is certainly very pretty! She likes to sew the way i do....wearing pj bottoms ...at least I think they are. Sometimes in the winter when it is cold and I have no plans or company expected, I get up, shower and put on clean pj's for a sewing day :).

Looks as though things are progressing nicely. ENJOY

karielt 09-26-2010 03:31 PM

The update...
We will be finishing it on Thursday evening. Also she has decided to hand quilt it so we are taking on another adventure with this quilt. Also she wanted to learn how to make YO YO's so she has decided to place yo yo flowers on it randomly. She is also wanting to enter it into the fair next year so keep watching...

We both again want to thank everyone for there support, love and donations. She has enough extra we will be making another quilt she is going to be donating it to the hospital as a service project. (She will pass off one more thing in her youth program)

Thank you again
Karie and Justeena

Stitchnripper 09-26-2010 03:36 PM

Congratulations to Justeena on her beautiful quilt!

Thanks so much for sharing pics of this project. Will be fun to see it finished. Plus you know you have instilled the love of quilting in her. :-) You are a super gal for doing this and taking the time to share with all of us.

EmsMom 09-26-2010 07:54 PM

WOW what an amazing thing for you and everyone on this board to do. Sorry I came "late" to the party. The quilt is absolutely beautiful

cjomomma 09-26-2010 08:03 PM

I don't know how I lost track of this thread but I have missed out on a lot.
I love the way the quilt is coming along. Can't wait to see it finished. She really is doing a great job on her first quilt.

marymc 09-27-2010 05:25 AM

Very nice! The colors are wonderful. Isn't it great how you can put together such a pleasing combination from random donated fabric? So much creativity in her pretty litle head.

Quilt Mom 09-27-2010 07:26 AM

Wonderful job!!! Way to go!

Karie -

My wife was asking about Justeena tonight. Has she made anything else? We'd love to see more pics of her work.

Thanks,

Darren

Evie 06-13-2011 07:21 PM

And as I was sorting through some scraps, I was wondering the same thing! Has Justina finished her quilt? I'm sure we would all love to see the finished product. But, knowing how busy teens can get, I bet she had better things to do!

SandyinZ4 06-13-2011 07:29 PM

Thanks Evie for reviving this. So Karielt...how are things going? Now that summer is here is this back on the front burner? Please do update us. :-)

karielt 06-14-2011 06:19 AM

Hi ladies MJ on here emailed me to tell me people had posted questions, thank goodness for her I didn't get any notification. To answer your questions her top is done and she is coming over tonight to finish piecing the bottom of her quilt I'll take pictures for sure. Her family has had some struggles so It has been hard to get some time with her but she called me Sunday and she is ready to go again. Thanks for your support and I'll post pictures later :)

laparshall 06-14-2011 07:04 AM

I would love to see your pictures. It is nice that the two of you are still working on this project together.

Deecee 06-14-2011 12:38 PM

Hey Karie - Great to see you are still working with Justeena.

Look forward to pics.

Quilt Mom 06-18-2011 03:09 AM

Great progress! I'll be watching for the 'finished quilt' pics. Has Justina been working on those yo-yos during the winter to put on the top?
