Need help with placemats please
Hi....I'm wanting to make placemats. Of course they'll probably need washing at one time or another. I'm curious about what batting to use. I did prewash my fabric. Should I prewash any batting I put in? Thank you in advance for your expertise....

They sell a product that is a stiff fusible interfacing and it comes in a package of 4 placemats...very stiff...can't remember name but someone might know. l saw it featured at our guild..also used to stiffen purses and totes...really professional looking results.

I use deco bond by Pellon for placemats. It gives a crisp finish and is washable. I think it's the same as the precut, it feels the same.

Some people prefer to use felt but I prefer to use the leftovers of Hobbs 80/20 batting scraps. Still trying to get the binding on this Xmas gift placemat.

I like to use Stiff Stuff. It is thin and has a "bouce back" property that comes out great when I'get washe'd them on gentle in my washer. Google Stiff Stuff and there is a video. I think the company is Lazy Girl.

:) I have made quite a few sets of placemats and use thinner polyester batting like I have used on my quilts -- no problem with washing them as mine have been washed many times!!

I just used scraps from my warm and natural and the placemats are now two years old and washed numerous times and are looking great still.

Thanks. That's what I have on hand. Did you prewash the batting?
