Need help with a quilt pattern
I am the official quilter for our family reunion quilts, done every other year. I had this "brilliant" idea of making a black and white quilt. Family members have sent black/white fabrics, white/black fabrics - now the problem. I have seen so many beautiful quilts here on the Quilting Board, quilt magazines, etc.. I'm not quite sure which quilt block to use. I've thought of a log cabin with half black, half white logs, D9P, stars, so many choices, but I could use your help in deciding what to do. Each family has a color (we wear colored shirts to ID who belongs to whom), and my brother Ed's family color of black is long overdue. Help me out here please. Thank you so much.

I like the log cabin idea - one side black, the other white. The log cabin pattern represents home and family to me. If you used a red square in the center, it would be striking.... just a thought...

Black & white would have to be one of my favourites. I did one last year for my son and DIL and used red with it.

I had intended to do the Craftsy free block of the month sampler in b/w. I still think it's a good idea.

I love the D9P, the colors are beautiful

A Carpenter's Star would be stunning in black and white with a accent color. Red,teal, salmon, any strong color would make a great quilt.

The ideas shown here are delightful! But why not also go to Google Images and type in "black and white quilts". You'll see pages and pages and pages of them!

I think katier85's link to B&W quilts was awesome! I'm keeping the site info to go back & really look at my leisure. Very inspirational! Thanks.

What about a French Braid in black and white? I've always wanted to do that.

Here is a b/w quilt my mom made with some b/w cats!

What beautiful quilts. I have one black and white I haven't finished yet. Maybe next year. lol The B/W with the turquoise is lovely

Disappearing nine patch with just a hint of all the other colors?
|
What about a QR Code quilt? You can go to the QR code generator and type in what ever you want to say. Maybe your family name and the reunion date. Anyone at the reunion with a smart phone will be able to read it.
http://www.the-qrcode-generator.com/ There is a recent thread about these type quilts. http://www.quiltingboard.com/picture...n-t207790.html http://www.quiltingboard.com/main-f1...s-t182084.html |

The quilt I have as my avatar is a black and white I made for my niece a few years ago. I used 63 different blocks and made it a sampler. There are splashes of color here and there too

This DP9 is beautiful with the turquoise!
|
Thanks, love the teal (my family's color, and I haven't made one in teal yet; nor have I won any of the quilts). You seem to have similar fabric as that I have received, so thanks for a great idea. When I finish the top my niece in KS will long arm it for me, I think she's afraid the quilt will be late like the one two years ago (which she won by the way) oops.

I just checked out the google site for black and white quilts, thanks for the link. Although my head is spinning with all the possibilities, I've gotten some great inspiration. Thanks. I knew if I threw this out to the QB I would get some options on possible quilts.
|
I agree, I think this was my first choice, and I just saw a beautiful black/white log cabin on google above. Thanks.
|
Great quilt and I love your design.
|
Another great idea. Thanks.
|
Drunkards path is another great quilt idea. I knew the gals/guys on QB would come through for me. Thanks again.
|
Another beautiful quiltl with the D 9P, I never knew there could be so many variations, sort of like the log cabin quilt. Thanks.
|
I think whether you use the D9P or the log cabin, it would be neat to use all the colors of your different family units in the quilt. For example, you could use them in the center squares of the D9P or the log cabins. That way, no matter who wins it, they have a bit of all the family with them.
|
Wow this is gorgeous, can't wait to see what you decide to use.......
|
Sorry to put another suggestion into the mix, what about a "Thinking Outside the Block" pattern, which is just a small variation to log cabin. As someone else suggested google images. This block is most effective and you only need to use shades of one color to achieve the effect. Good luck on your search, and all the best for the reunion.
