You did a wonderful job, it's beautiful?

penski 02-03-2011 12:19 PM

i dont do hand stitching but wanted to say you did a great job on the quilt

amandasgramma 02-03-2011 12:21 PM

Beautiful quilt! I see quilting in those triangles.....try quilting a triangle, 1/4" from the outer edge of each triangle.... That always looks nice.

Dina 02-03-2011 12:28 PM

Beautiful quilt. I liked it before you pointed out the mistake, decided I liked the mistake, and like it after you fixed the mistake.

Very impressive quilt. I am a beginner too and would be delighted if I had made this quilt!

sewwhat85 02-03-2011 12:29 PM

This is to be my first ever hand quilted try. I've only SITD before on the machine. I would really like to try something other than that but cannot figure out what pattern to try with the triangles.
Any ideas/suggestions?
Thanks!

(sorry for the pic, didn't have hubby home to hold it up for me)

Hi you have have done a beautiful piecing job. I would use 1/4" masking tape and quilt inside the seam lines rather than in the ditch on the blocks. For the binding I would use a meandering vien or feather pattern this will have the effect of softening all the angels you have in the blocks. If you wanted to be really brave you could always use a feather design over the blocks with varigated thread to make your hand quilting pop and add another demension to your quilt. What ever you choose I know it will be gorgeous!

gizzy1158 02-03-2011 03:28 PM

Very, very beautiful!!

Taughtby Grandma 02-03-2011 03:53 PM

I didn't see the "mistake" till you said where it was. Beautiful quilt with added character. Just think no one else will be able to make a quilt like that even if they have the pattern!

bevster 02-03-2011 04:03 PM

I haven't hand quilted as yet either, BUT YOUR QUILT IS BEAUTIFUL!

sewingladydi 02-03-2011 04:09 PM

Try to chose a quilting design where you do not have to quilt across seams. Much easier to hand quilt if you only have to go thru the top, batting & bottom. If you have to quilt across seams, it's harder to keep your stitches small. Also, if you can quilt on the bias, rather than the straight grain, it's easier.

aldarnell 02-03-2011 04:12 PM

Love your quilt, very pretty. I'm like you , every time I looked at the quilt I would see the block and the mistake. I'm new to quilting and love it. I had to look close to find it.

At least I know before it was quilted and can fix it now if I choose. Really appreciate the help!

A small mistake makes it an "Amish Quilt".... only God is perfect!

Whenever I have straight lines in a quilt, I use curves for quilting. And when the quilt is more curvy, (flowery?) not so geometric, then I tend to use straight stitching... but that is all free-motion work, not hand-quilting.

quiltergirl80 02-03-2011 04:26 PM

ooh, it would be pretty with 1/4" outline quilting :0)

jitkaau 02-03-2011 04:43 PM

If you are going to hand quilt, echo and outline stitching comes to mind.

dubon 02-03-2011 04:55 PM

This quilt top is just beautiful, I have not taken
the plunge yet, but as soon as I move into my house, I
am going to try myself, wish me luck.....dubon

Jeanhawkins 02-03-2011 05:02 PM

Your quilt is beautiful. I would like the pattern and I would just quilt around the out side of the triangles and then in the strips setting it together.

IMHO- I'd leave it and call the quilt "No body's Prefect"

You could always sign that piece and make it look as tho it was done on purpose!

bonniebusybee 02-03-2011 05:44 PM

Wish I had one just like it to start quilting on tonight! Enjoy!

And I, too, would just outline your pieces, and possibly pick up the suggestion to quilt 1/4" in from the edges of each block. There's a lot of quilting there!

it helps to use that "thread heaven" or whatever. The label has worn off mine.

Leave the pink block right where it is. This makes your quilt one of a kind. There are people who make a mistake on purpose, because humans are not perfect.

Anna.425 02-03-2011 06:58 PM

It is very nice! To me the pinwheels are the point of the quilt so I would do them and then the corner triangles and perhaps one area inbetween. you certainly don't need to do every piece unless you want to. One thing that is nice to do is to quilt the connecting strips between squares in a fun pattern. Have fun with it.

Lucy90 02-03-2011 07:27 PM

Lovely quilt. I hand quilt certain quilts and quilt 1/4" inside the squares, triangles etc

createquilt 02-03-2011 07:31 PM

That block can be your oops block and make it your signature piece.

Judie 02-03-2011 08:24 PM

What a beautiful quilt!!

I would follow the triangles, quilting in about 1/4 inch from the seam lines. Makes for a no mark quilt pattern and in the end really shows off the piecing..

I always spray baste, and have hand quilted many quilts with no problem.. I quilt on a hoop in my lap. I generally use Warm & Natural or Warm & White batting and don't feel any drag at all on the needle.. also I don't bother pin basting, the spray baste holds just fine until I'm done (which can be quite awhile) It's a great time of year for hand quilting!!

IBQUILTIN 02-03-2011 09:11 PM

Diddn't think we had any quilt police here to point out mistakes, oh well, just do your own thing and it will be gorgeous. It already is, but the quilting will really make it pop

biscuitqueen 02-03-2011 09:18 PM

if you use bees wax, something my mom gave me you thread it through and this helps pull the thread through the quilt top, dang if I know what its called. Comes in a plastic container with holes so you pull the thread through it.

Oh, just leave it alone. It makes it unique. Besides you won't find too many quilts without at least one oops.

gcherie2 02-04-2011 12:20 AM

Hello,
Your quilt is beautiful. I was taught that you are always supposed to have one error in your quilt in honor of God, because only God is perfect.
