Hello quilting board members, I recently bought this sewing machine at a thrift store for a great 6 dollars! It works well except when I try to stitch zigzags, using the pattern disc 0, it skips a stitch. Have any of you had this problem and how did you correct it? I have the Manuel which I downloaded from singer and my knob settings are fine, so I'm not sure what the problem is.

+I would buy inexpensive machine. those nylon gears cost at least $125 to replace. (Ask me how I know lol). Ask if the gears are metal or nylon. I have touch & sew 1963 Yr model & gears are metal, Sews like a dream & love makin raggy quilts on it.

Sometimes it is just the bobbin. Sis has one called me having problems. changed bobbin & fine. sometimes the dent in middle of bobbin wears & won't sew right. Found this out by trial & error.

Diamondrose is right. The bobbins don't fit right. Also don't wind them too full. Oil the place where the bobbin sits just a drop.

I have one of those machines and love it. Sometimes you need to unscrew the bobbin and then put back together==I have trouble with new bobbins unless I do this lil trick first. I buy some bobbins off Ebay with no problems. Being plastic, some times the edges get worn--might need to check that. you can gently file with nail file to iron out edges.

Hi, I have a T&S 706. I've had it for 30 yrs, it's a 1969 machine. It sews like a dream and purrs. It also has lots of feet and throat plates. I did have a major repair done on it about 5 years ago. It needed a new gear (mine are plastic) and a new bobbin winding mechanism. The man at our local repair shop said it was worth getting it repaired. I must admit, it really was worth getting it repaired but as it is in a cabinet, I also have a Brother Innovis 30 and a Toyota Eco 15A, which are both lightweight and easy to transport in the car. My T & S can do everything my modern machines can do. It just hasn't got the choice of embroidery stitches.
