Since she wanted dark, I would border it with the dark stars that you found. I really like it so far.

I am not into wizards and such so I would use one of your other choices.
|
It looks great as is.
|
I love it just as you have it. I like that blue fabric you used for the border and the yellow sets it all off. Nice!!

And here is the other piece of fabric I have that could be used:

The finished product is just perfect! Great job!

If you have a soft brown instead of a gold would that still make it pop and then the wizard. I really like your quilt.

I like this choice. My second choice would be the other stars fabric. It looks great so far!

I think it looks ok without another border. If you don't have a good yellow, maybe a narrow aqua and then the dark blue with stars for the outer border and binding would be my suggestion.
|
Personally I like the dark star fabric. The quilt top is very cute. Not crazy about the wizards.
|
It turned out perfect. The wizards w/the silver didn't work and it was also too light. I love 1/2" accent borders. The gold is perfect, it makes the design seem to pop. So, now how are you going to quilt it? And then, what are you going to bind it with? Decisions, decisions, always have to make decisions.

Your choices made an amazing quilt. Kudos on a job well done!

It looks done to me! Would use the light fabric as a binding.

I agree withbearisgray!! Small YELLOW/GOLD border and then the Wizards!!!! I too have the exact same fabric and might ''copy'' your idea!! |
You made the perfect choice. I am sure she will love it.

Your quilt turned out perfect!! She will love it.

Okay, everyone! All decisions have been made. It is all assembled and I am now starting to quilt it. I am doing SID around the star blocks with navy thread on the top and a silver grey on the back. Then I got some little star cookie cutters that I am going to use for templates to stitch stars in the aqua blocks, just to add some extra quilting. That will be done in a gold color (not metallic). I will post pics when it is all finished; will take me a couple days. Have a graduation cake to make for Friday for DGS. Life just always seems to get in the way of our creative processes.:D

She wanted dark colors, I'd go with the dark blue stars..........
|
I would do a very small border of a bright yellow, then do the outside border with the wizard fabric. I'd make the back the wizard fabric, and it should all go together beautifully. Cute quilt, btw!

Thanks everyone. Problem is, I haven't been able to find any gold/yellow that looks right with it. And yes. the aqua is Kaufmans' with a small metallic star in it. They also have it in dark blue. I still have some of the aqua, enough for a border or binding. The other stuff I have had for years, they also have metallic gold in them. The wizards has metallic silver. I am trying to do this without purchasing anything else. I thought of a 1/2" of the aqua, then the dark blue or wizards. I am not sure I like the wizards for the front, though.
I'll check out the gold blender. Judi |
See above...it is all done. Will post pics when I get it quilted.
|
I agree with a small yellow or gold border and then the dark blue. It is a gorgeous quilt!
|
I don't really like the wizards either. Do you need a border? Couldn't you just bind it as is? It's quite lovely the way it is
|
Ok just 1 in a 100 of opinions but, my choice would be the darker boarder. I actually like the coloring of the wizards but I'm not a Wizard person. I love love stars, moon and sun fabrics. I have a collection of them myself. But I don't care for Wizards. Something about them to me...I just don't care for. Other than that the blanket is going to be beautiful! I would LOVE one like it just...sans wizards!

Well thats what I get for commenting without reading it all! Good choice Grann!! Cant wait to see the final results! |
Thanks everyone for all your opinions. It is quilted and ready to be bound. As for the wizards, thanks for the opinions on that too. I am not a big wizard fan either, but it is what I have left from another project, and with all the stars, it goes with the theme of the quilt, I think. I am not spending any more money on this quilt. And I think the gold stitched stars are going to be eliminated. They look cute, but are too time consuming to do.
|
I really like your quilt but do not know what you should do for a border.
|
I like the wizard fabric it is cute, but I would use the darker blue for the border and leave it at that, she wanted dark and that is what I would do.
|
If she asked for dark, I'd go with dark blue with the tiny stars.
Lovely work. |
Great job....love all your fabric choices....what a lucky little person to have such a beautiful quilt.
|
Fabulous! I like Bearisgray's suggestion. I find I usually do though!
|
I don't think you really need a border unless you want one. The aqua would do nicely. this is a fine job.
