I am hand quilting this using John James Size 10 Big Eye Quilting Needles. The needles work great, but my problem is threading the needles with the thicker quilting thread. I have broken the threading wire on 2 heart shaped Clover threaders and the DMC threader has threading wire too thick to pull the thread throught the eyes. Does anyone have suggestions on needles with bigger eyes or threaders that the threading wire doesnt break so easily. I am being as gentle as I can when threading..

Maybe try using a black sharpie to color the end of the thread, it will make it easier to see as you thread the needle.

Even though those needles are called big eye I don't think they are. I use Roxanne needles and have no problem getting a 30 wt quilting thread through the eye. I usually run my thread through bees wax and a great tip I got here was to moisten the eye end of your needle instead of the end of your thread. It works great. I also have a magnifyer glass on my Ott light which I have to use. I do not use needle threaders.

Try the Roxann needles, I think you will really like them and they really are a lot easier to thread with heavier quilting thread.

I the Clover desk needle threader and it has worked for me using thicker threads and size 10 needles. Did you know that needles made in Japan are made from better quality steel then in Germany, the US, or England? I always look for the Made in Japan when buying needles or pins.
