Need ideas for a little girlish blue jean quilt
 

I plan to make a "weighted" blanket for a little girl out of blue jeans. I figure that the blue jeans, along with batting and flannel backing, will suffice for a heavy blanket. But I want to girl it up some and need ideas! Thank for any help!

I used a really cute pink dancing fairy flannel for a little girl quilt. Something like that would make it more girly.

Maybe add white eyelet trim around the edges?

You can add wide ric rac in a different color.

I found some pink flowerydenim at Joanns to add to the blue jean quilt I made.

If you rummage thru the clearance bins at fabric stores sometimes they have those embroidered patches that you just sew on. Or take some lace fabric and layer pieces with denim.

BTW: I sew weighted blankets for autistic kids and it sounds like you will need some more weight to make it effective. It will depend on how large a blanket it is. I once used patches of jeans with the back pockets still on and sewed the pockets shut with weights in them. I used heavy duty washers but most will use poly beads. Just some info. :)

How nice! From what I've read, they are really comforting. Do you have a rule of thumb as far as weight? This little gal weighs between 35 & 40 pounds, that's why I was thinking the denim, batting and heavier backing might be enough weight. I appreciate your input.

I made a 44x76 rag quilt of the heavy denim jeans and chamois weight flannel. It weighed over six pounds. Denim jeans seem to come ib almost canvas weight to very light weight. Flannel also comes in various weights.I had a hard time finding the extra heavy weight flannel.

The was made of five inch squares sewn with half inch seams.

You could embellish some of the squares before sewing them together.

I once saw a quilt pattern in a magazine where they used Battenberg lace with blue jeans (or you could use eyelet or crocheted doilies) A round lace piece was quartered, sewn on a corner of a square piece of blue jean, sort of like a fan block and then they were set on point. It looked beautiful and delicate and I plan to make one someday. It's on the very long to do list.
