I have a question that I've been wondering about for quite a while. I'm just starting to quilt and am still on basic square patch things. But, I have a pillow my mother made using this pattern and would like to make a quilt sometime using it. I was never sure how to assemble it. Are the "plates" sewn onto squares or a full size backing? It didn't look pieced (other than the "plate").

Hey Mimi,

Well, I saw this method on Missour Star Quilt Company's tutorials and it's SO much easier than doing them by hand! The plates are attached to 14" squares although, depending upon the background I may make mine 16" squares and then sash the squares then border and backing. A friend of mine did hers in the QAYG style (quilt as you go) where you complete each block as a sandwich (top, batting, backing) then quilt it, then attach the sections together w/a 1.5" sash.

Keep up the good work! I found doing my first and only, dresden Plate to be somewhat challenging. I did mine with rounded edges, but I really like what you did with the having it pointed.

Oh man Susan, if I did rounded edges I'd pass OUT! I've got the plates all done so now I just need to decide what to attach them to and sashing, etc.

When missing her, I wrap it around me and know how much I was loved. Could you do the same and feel her energy and guidance?

Okay CREEPY! I have a crocheted shawl from my grandmother as well and once I slept in it! I hadn't thought about asking her like that but I know she'd say, "Ivory or white, Girl!"
