Good morning Ladies and gents...

First time making these. Am I supposed to square these up after pressing them to get rid of the corner nub/seam thing?

:-)

Its a good rule of thumb to always square up your blocks to make sure that they are all the correct size before stitching together in your project. Prevents a wonky uneven look. Also yes remove the stubs so there is less bulk.

Yes, I trim them up, it helps to cut down on bulk as you assemble things.

The choice is yours. Some cut it off and others use it for a guide. It depends on what mood I am in as to whether I cut if off or not. In a hurry, leave it. Perfectionist personality coming out, cut it off. lol

There are a few patterns where I will leave the "dog ears", but usually I cut them off.

I usually cut off the dog ears as it reduces the bulk -just a word of caution make all your blocks before you trim them so if one is a bit smaller you can trim to that size!!!

Just an FYI - JenniePenny wrote a very clear tutorial on assembling those corner units.

If you look at the last picture, you can see she has 1/4" seam allowance at the bottom point of the yellow square. When the corner unit is attached to the side of a square or to a HST, the point won't get chopped off.
