Need a Name for this Log Cabin Challenge Wallhanging

1 Attachment(s)
This is the second wallhanging that I have made for our guild's President's Challenge this year. It had to be mainly log cabin blocks, it could not be more than 24" square, it had to have black and/or white fabrics, and it could include other blocks besides log cabins.

I got the idea for this quilt from Flavin Glover's "Row Houses" quilt that was selected as one of the twentieth century's 100 best American quilts. It was the cover picture for her book "A New Look at Log Cabin Quilts" published in 2003.

I designed my quilt on graph paper and used freezer-paper piecing to make the blocks. I would totally choose different fabrics in some areas if I were going to do this over, but this ain't goin' to Houston. Finished is good enough.

I'm at a loss on what to name it. Do you have any ideas?

"Welcome Home"?

"Our Block or My Block or Our Neighborhood Block"

I did one of these by Flavin and called it Windy City....

How about The Sun On my Roof or Sun Rays on Roof Tops. I seem to have been grabbed by that sun shining down. Good luck with the challenge.

PS: Is that you sky diving in the photo?

It's a great quilt but I'm not good with names and doubt you'd be able to use; "We'll leave the lights on for you!".

Yes! :) It's my favorite wingsuit photograph.

I made a wall hanging with the sun. I named it New Day! (the sun is rising and the house lights are on with busy families getting ready for a new day! ;)

Sunshine in the city. I like your quilt.

Not good with naming quilts, just wanted to say I love how the sky turned out pieced like that!

ksdot417 11-22-2015 05:33 AM

My thought immediately went to the song - The House of the Rising Sun

ManiacQuilter2 11-22-2015 05:39 AM

How about "Cabins on a Sunny Day".

lfstamper 11-22-2015 06:07 AM

Very nice! Daybreak?

I am not good with names but I love your quilt. I have had a house quilt bouncing around in my brain for a while. Something like this maybe. I often get an idea and work it out in my brain for a long time before I draw it out on paper. I had to Pin your quilt. I also had to buy the book.
