trying to make a quilt for a fireman. would like something that appears flamelike. have considered a bargello.

A couple of years ago there was a fabric line of flames that would be great in a firemen's quilt. You might find some on eBay? A Bargello would also work though.

I would think a Bargello might look really neat in fire colors. If this site gets you to Serenity quilt, it is a fun one to make.
https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B7N...tyZlMyUXc/view Let me see if I can find one of mine. Okay, see if that interests you any. I have also seen some great firefighters-type fabric too. That might be fun. I hope this is helpful. Good luck finding what you want. Dina |
You might want to look at pre-package jelly rolls strips with oranges, red and yellows. I just bought a pattern called Fire Escape on eBay:

Here is a bargello called Dancing Flames from Craftsy: http://www.craftsy.com/pattern/quilt...g-flames/66873
Flame fabric is still around. I just saw it last week when I was shopping. |

You could add some smoke to your bargello flames, for contrast.

This would be a great pattern .... with rotary cutters it would go together quickly, too!! |
I think Serenity is the one I used and it was a lot of fun. One caution--as I remember, the tutorial said to start stitching all rows at the same end. At the time, I questioned that. Sure enough, it came out as I thought it would--had a curve in it toward the end. Best to sew each row from the opposite end so it stays straight.
