Hi guys, I'm signed up for a Bargello class in March at our LQS and would love it if anyone who has made a Bargello would please post a photo of it. Iv'e already contacted johnette about hers that she has in her avatar and she told me what I would need to make one. I bought 2 jelly rolls today and I hope they will work alright. Thanks in advance!! Jan

Thanks guys, those are beautiful and inspirational too!

What size are they and did you use jelly rolls to make them?

Dawn Hendrix 02-05-2009 03:08 PM

My aqua and chocolate one was 1/2 yrd cuts .. It was INCREDIBLY easier that the 50 string pieced other one. The aqua and chocolate is done in strata that yes you cut and reattach in different sizes.

The 50 fabrics was 4000 pieces! NEVER AGAIN!!!

Chele I LOVE yours I love the movement!!!!

I have another one my horizon.. my son LOVES his mommas quilts and he is 13 soon to be 14 and I have a really neat one he has picked out.. Hopefully by the time he is 15 it will be DONE!! LOL

Mine looks so subdued next to all of yours. I love earth tones and this was one for my bed

HMK 02-05-2009 07:29 PM

What's the best way to quilt a bargello quilt?

Janstar 02-05-2009 08:28 PM

I love it littlehud! I got jelly rolls by Fig Tree called Gypsy Rose and they are subdued. I can't wait to see how it will look. Thanks for showing it.

pal 02-05-2009 08:31 PM

My mouth is hanging open!!!! What beautiful quilts you all have made!

Janstar 02-05-2009 08:32 PM

WOW, Shadow, that's beautiful! I remember that one. Do you chose a pattern on how you get them to twist like that? I'm so curious about them. When I do one I want it to be spectacular! Thanks!!

k3n 02-06-2009 12:43 AM

Yeah Shadow, WOW! Must put that on my to do list!

Quilt4u 02-06-2009 02:38 AM

Love them all. Would love to make one but I'm so afraid I would get it messed up some how. I'm Dyslexic.

Stitching4Fun 02-06-2009 05:42 AM

Shadow.............I remember when you posted that bargello picture. I too, feel intimidated by them!! But, I got a book on them and am now searching for the time to do one. I also purchased the heart bargello book. How big did your bargello end up being? I noticed in the books it just has a lapquilt or a wallhanging.

Those are all so amazing! I was looking at a pattern online last night and thinking of a large, blank wall in my living room that could use a wall hanging. These pictures have made the decision to try one.

estherblair 02-07-2009 09:15 AM

Check with shadow on here she's great with them

Barbm 02-07-2009 09:22 AM

hubby says that's for people with a real quilting problem.

son says it's too much work.

I say they are awesome!!!

bearpaw 02-07-2009 10:53 AM

They are all GORGEOUS!!!

mpeters1200 02-07-2009 11:42 AM

Mine is not specifically a Borgello quilt, but definitely pieced borgello style. I sewed all the trips together into a tube, but instead of cross cutting at different widths, all of my crosscut strips were cut at 5 1/2" inches. It was so much easier to do it this way, and seam rip in strategic areas, then to cut out each individual square....that would have been murder. Pics are on page 5 of this thread.

This is a picture of a bargello quilt I made that I actually drafted myself. It was allot of work but made me understand much better the nature of bargello quilting and allowed me to experiment on future quilts. Fun! Good luck. Let me know if I can help!
Marian :)

k3n 02-09-2009 07:24 AM

Wow Marian, I love the 3D effect! Fab-U-Luss!!!

ckcowl 02-09-2009 07:38 AM

yes, i appliqued fish, dolphins, coral ect. after creating my bargello ocean, quilted it with waves then added hot-fix crystals here and there for some sparkle and bubbles where i felt they were needed...
she LOVES her new quilt!
i looked and looked for a large dolphin for the center but could not locate one (until it was finished of course) so i found a panal with the turtle, octopus and other sea life and cut that up to use it. most of the applique is raw-edge fused then sewn. when i finished that one i so loved the outcome and the technique that i quickly started another in 'woodsy' fabrics, then appliqued deer & elk, it was a christmas gift for my brother in law and his wife who built a new house in the woods. don't have pic'[s yet.

ckcowl 02-09-2009 07:40 AM

WOW doesn't do it justice...beautiful!!! i find i love the technique but have not been too adventurous yet with the bargello design. i have to spend some time doing more after seeing yours, great inspiration! and someone is very lucky. are you keeping it?

This is my first bargello. I took the class a couple of years ago and had done nothing with the little bargello. But my daughter when she was 3 (she is not 22) we volunteered in a school for the disabled in Atlanta. Alex helped follow kids in the hallway when they were on bikes and helped feed them at lunch. She was only 3!
Anyway at the end of the year they gave us T-shirts and a tote with the saying "Paint Your Rainbows with the Colors You are Given". So I got this quilt out and added the words and a paint bucket/brushes. Haven't finished it yet but thought I would go ahead and share since you wanted pictures.
I was going to give this to a new grand nephew or niece but decided I need to keep it for my first grandchild from Alex since the saying means so much to us!
The paint bucket and brushes are raw appliqued.

what a wonderful story! beautiful quilt too!

Donna Batiks....what a beautiful idea and story to go with it. Very pretty.

HarleyQuinn--I think it's great that you have a small size. The idea of making a big one with all those different widths scare the bejonkers right out of me. A lap size or wall hanging would be a good practice one!

Thanks. It was done with fat quarters, I wanted it smaller to resemble an art quilt....
