Need suggestions on how to make one of these...

I have seen these and looked them over. They are some kind of a thin dense foam, 1/4 plywood then this same thin dense foam again, they work GREAT and cut down on both the movement and sound of the machine when in use. However it seems a bit expensive.

I HAVE tried the waffle placemats and the non skid shelf lined stuff, but nothing compares to this :(

Any thoughts or suggestions of something else to try!
Thanks everyone for the help.

Maybe try some automotive headliner. You can get it at Joann's or Hancock Fabrics for about $14/yard. You could get by with 1/2 yard and use a coupon.

There are kids' play mats and anti-fatigue mats for standing on that come in the shape of puzzle pieces. Easily found on Craigslist or in thrift stores. I would imagine a piece cut to size would work quite well.

I use the shelf liner that looks like waffle and is rubber, works great with my Pfaff quilt expression

I have some vinyl placemats that are larger than the item you posted. They came 4 to a package for about $10.00 at Walmart several years ago. Just Google vinyl placemats and you should find something that will work.

I assume you want it not to vibrate - the play mats Monroe mentioned are a great idea. If you don't have a big issue with vibrating you can make a quilted one and add a couple layers of batting.

It kind of looks like the stuff that computer mouse pads are made from.

Martelli will be having a sale at the end of July. I signed up for the Red Line Direct & get emails on upcoming sales. They will also have a sale on their workstations sometime in Aug.

Honestly I think that is the same as the Steady Betty. It's two foam lined vinyl wrapped around boards sandwiched together. The foam back vinyl use to be sold at most upholstery shops and fabric shops for outdoor use. You can iron on the foam side, doesn't hurt the vinyl at all. I'm not a fan of Martelli sales tactics but that price is very reasonable.

I use one of those carpet samples. works great and is a great place to stick your pins while you are sewing.
