how about a d9p, I can do that in an afternoon, or a split rail or a jelly roll

Sharonquilts 10-31-2015 12:35 PM

Does she like traditional or modern quilts?

ManiacQuilter2 10-31-2015 12:42 PM

I always use Warm Wishes (free pattern). The quilt goes together quickly. I use a 8.5" cute focus fabric to make a larger quilt with less blocks. You might look at some of the u-tube videos that MSQC has posted on the web. Good Luck.

can you give me one of each

PaperPrincess 10-31-2015 01:12 PM

I like the MSQC disappearing hourglass. Looks like you spent forever piecing it. You don't need to purchase a layercake, just cut the squares from yardage.

Double slice from M*; works up quickly and is great for beautiful prints that you don't want to cut into small pieces as well as solids .

Onebyone 10-31-2015 02:40 PM

The fastest quilt is to make 20 inch blocks of any pattern you like. 3 block across and 4 down with a border or two and you have a queen size quilt.

luvspaper 10-31-2015 02:43 PM

Honestly something as easy as 10 inch squares can quilt up quickly if you find an awesome fabric collection. I did one that was more of 10x14 rectangles and it is one of my favorite couch quilts.

But partially it will depend on your DDs likes and dislikes and honestly what you like making.

Snowball quilts are fast and fun. Choose a beautiful focus fabric and accent the corners with a coordinating fabric.

This is just a simple baby quilt but it would be lovely done with a beautiful large rose pattern fabric as a focal fabric alternated with accents. Just an idea for fast and impact!

I can't find it, but I have seen a quilt in the past few day, either on facebook or emails, that had large squares (could be layer cake) alternating with white squares, no border, no intricate piecing. It was a nice, easy to make, looking quilt. Very simple, yet classy. Sorry I can't find it. Maybe someone else knows which one I am talking about and can post the link.

rhilkey 10-31-2015 04:05 PM

This looks quick: http://www.quiltfrog.com/fourhour.html You could make the squares bigger or add another border.

Gramie bj 10-31-2015 05:33 PM

Eleanor Burns has several quilt in a day Patterns. They usually take me 3 or 4 days to do. I have never been disappointed In her patterns.

tessagin 10-31-2015 05:45 PM

MSQC has a half square triangle that you can do different things with it. Go traditional or modern depending on your fabric. A light and a dark.

scrapnut 10-31-2015 08:37 PM

Turning 20 is super easy and fast.

zozee 10-31-2015 08:40 PM

Warm Wishes looks harder than it is. The simplicity is very appealing . Choose a fantastic focus fabric plus two coordinating colors.

Quilt as you go, large log cabin (yes, OnebyOne, 20" works) or square within a square.

sept97 11-01-2015 04:49 AM

I'm doing a square in a square...used a jelly roll and charm pack

lindaschipper 11-01-2015 04:51 AM

Try the zipper quilt from Missouri Star Quilt co. Very easy and they have a video on U-tube you can watch!!

Sew Freak 11-01-2015 04:58 AM

agree with Gramie bj.....I made a log cabin (actually 2 more after the first) and you can sew it in one day. Now I wasn't able to do the quilting but when I did it I did SID and that took about another 2 days. LG's are one of my fav's.

pmonaghen 11-01-2015 05:42 AM

take 5..can be cut out, and pieced in a day/cuple of evenings

My go-to is always 9 patch with snowballs. Fast, easy, standard sizes - 6.5 " and 2.5" squares.

Google these words....BQ Patterns. The blocks are large and fun to put together. There are at least three versions.

I am sooo happy to read this! I am making my 7 year old grandson a quilt using fabric with lots of transportation prints. I plan on using 10 1/2 squares alternating with blocks made from 4 1/2 sq & 2 1/2 sashing. I was worried that the 10 1/2 squares would be too large but he will want to see his trucks & planes not Grandma's piecing, KWIM? There is plenty of piecing with sashing & cornerstones but those big squares...well, that's way bigger than I have ever cut to use whole, lol.

And there is a part 2, fast an easy and colors and it will look good.
Saw a quilt in Joannes the other day with 8" squares, 2.5" strips in square in a square and colors were beautiful.

I LOVE Boxed Squares! I have made it at least twelve times. It's easy and can be impressive with lots of colors. Also, the block can be any size you want. Another good traditional quilt is Log Cabin. I made an all blue one for Jim, and a tan and brown one for myself.

I want to thank everyone for the ideas. I will be checking them all out an let you know what I chose.

Sharonquilts 11-01-2015 02:15 PM

You asked for an idea of a traditional and a modern quilt. Visit this site below. I think this is more traditional but a beautiful quilt. I wasn't able to copy the photo; found this on Pinterest.

htt://wwwthecompanstore.com/bell-quilt/CX90x.html

I'm posting a black/white/green quilt that can be traditional or modern depending on the fabrics you select.

Ok that picture isn't posting either. Go to the Make-it-do site ... it's a picnic quilt w/black & white squares and green strips. I'll try again later to get the pics posted.

I've always said a triple rail fence quilt is one of the quickest, easiest to do; when you finish sewing the strips together, cut the block sections out and the quilt is virtually done! Color placement is what makes these quilt so appealing.

Here are three I designed. Two are just graphics - ideas done in MSPaint program, one other was sold in Austin, TX 10 years ago.

Notice that the colors are "graded" -- the reds, for example, range from dark red, to true red, to lighter red. The blues do the same. The 'whites' are 3 different ecrus, or white tone-on-tones, or, preferably, shirting prints. This makes the rails coherent and keeps the pattern from looking "jittery" over all.

I suggest choosing a theme print for your larger border (and maybe the backing!), then choosing your other colors from the theme print.

I love this quilt, ube quilting! It seems like the perfect answer to the question of what to do with a feature fabric that has a rather large print, and it's so elegantly simple.

shasta5718 11-02-2015 06:17 AM

When I need a fast quilt I use the 10 minute block, looks great and I can put a queen sized top together in a couple of hours. If you haven't seen one google it and watch tutorial on utube.

Bricks and Mortar is always a goto for me. it is very pretty in florals

MargeD 11-02-2015 12:33 PM

I agree with Paper Princess about the disappearing hourglass or any other disappearing block from MSQC, as they do go together quickly and make beautiful quilts.

I made this quilt in a few days. Not sure what it is called. Cut 3- 2.5" strips WOF and sew together. Cut into 6.5" blocks. Alternate these blocks with a plain square 6.5". I did it on point so the first row is my solid block. The next row has a solid then a stripped then a solid. Each row (start laying out in the corner of the design wall) will have a solid block at each end. Alternating with the stripped blocks. Laying them horizontal in the odd number rows and vertical in the even numbered rows. I will try to post a pic tire of my quilt. This is on point rather than as a rail fence.
Another way to put it together. I was pleased with this. Now I will quilt in the solid spaces, and SID on the stripped blocks. The only thing is I can't figure out how to do this anyway but square. That to me is not a bad thing because it can go on the bed in any direction. Now I will try to post pictures.
