I have been working on this quilt for a while. And, would like to finish it up. I've reached a point where I'm not quite sure whether I should leave it as is and call it done or keep going for a much larger quilt. First is what I have done. Should I continue, I plan to applique the dresden plates shown in the second picture all the way around the outside which will add at least 16 more inches on all 4 sides plus another 2 inches for a border. I think black as a background for the dresdens is the way to go since I am short on the other two fabrics. What do you think? If it were yours, would you keep going or stop now?
If it were me, I would keep going. Your dresden plates on black will look stunning! What color will you use for a border? Love your quilt, by the way.
I LOVE what you have pieced so far and those dredens in the border might be too busy and would distract from the beauty of the red and white. LOVE it as is. Sorry.
I like it as it is. I would use the Dresden Plates for another quilt.

I would make a different quilt with the dresden plates. I agree that it would be too busy and take away from the rest - which is beautiful. As for adding a border - that would depend on what size you want.
Oh I love the look of it as is! I think I would make another quilt from the Dresdan Plates and let them shine by themselves.
I like it the way it is.
or make it reversible with the dresdens on that. lay out the black and the dresdens next to your quilt and see how it looks first. then go with your instincts.
I love it just as it is, so I'd stop now! The quilt is already so beautiful and striking,I can't wait to see it quilted up!
I think I'd stop now and bind it with the black. I like the dresdens, but I really like the clean lines of the part you already have done. Beautiful quilt!
I would leave as is!! It's a beautiful quilt by itself. Looks like you're on your way to making a Dresden quilt.
I love it the way it is too!
I like it as it is. How about if you put the Dresdens on the backing? I love quilts that give a surprise when you look at the back.

I love it just the way it is too. Very nice!
Love it as is. I think the Dresdens are beauties, but might make the whole thiing look 'busy.'
I like "less is more" love the red and white as is, I would make another quilt w/ the dresdens.
Beautiful quilt top as it is now. The Dresden plates, as wonderful as they are, would only clash with the top.
I have to agree with the others leavr it as you have just add binding . The Dresden are wonderfull but use on another quilt.
Wow! Leesa! You have been doing some beautiful work!! I agree with leaving it as it is and just add the binding. And the dresdens will make another gorgeous quilt.
What a beautiful quilt top! When I saw the 1st pic, I immediately pictured a large black border to finish it off with, to make the quilt larger. No dresdens, just a plain border, with maybe a red or black binding. Yes, I'd save those other dresdens for another quilt, too.
I'm with the majority. The quilt is beautiful as it is. I don't think the dresden plates work with the rest of the quilt because the quilt uses the bold solid colors of each part to create the pattern while the dresden plates have a black and white print in them. If you want to go larger I would continue the theme of the three solids you've already chosen.

I, too, love it as it is!!!
That's what i think, the dresdans seem to be the start of another great quilt.

Well I also agree I love what you have without the plates. For me I think it's the modern unscalloped (is that a word) edges being so different than the plates in the quilt.
I would not add those DPs to the top....if you need to make larger...maybe a strip border do red, white, black mitered at corners would be a good frame. Jmho
The quilt as it is, is so very pretty.
Because the original "hearts and gizzards" is so crisp and pretty, I would stop there. Beautiful work.
Leave it as is. beautiful.

Well, looks like I have the beginnings of another quilt. I will go with the majority and call this one done except for quilting. Thanks so much for all of your help!!

I am a lover of Dresdens, but I'd save them for another project. Finish up what you have and WOW!
Looks nice as is I also love black as any smashing ow etc.
it is beautiful the way it is! Great job! love the colors!
Love it the way it is, but if you have your heart set on using the DP, maybe use them in half instead of the complete circle. Just a thought.
