Am working on this Teddy on Parade quilt and need your opinions on how to quilt it. Stipple? Stitch in the Ditch? Or a simple grid of squares? Do I stitch around each Teddy? I can't decide.... Picture attached.

What a terrific quilt!!! Personally, I would stitch around each teddy bear, then stitch-in-the-ditch the other seams, but that is just me.

Also, what about Teddy Bears in the border? A chain of them, kind of like paper kids? (does that make sense?)

I am sure whatever you do will be great!

Adorable teddies!!!!!!! :D
Welcome to the board!!
Sorry, I don't machine quilt yet :)

Adorable!

My thoughts are you want to make those Teddy's pop!

So I'm thinking a fine stipple or very fine cross-hatching for the background of each Teddy with an outline stitch close to the applique stitching of each Teddy. Also SITD for the rail fences. Then straight line quilting for the stripes in the border, the same width as the rail fence strips, and to create somewhat the effect of piano keys.

That quilt is beautiful. I really like your color choices. I agree with the others, and think you should quilt around the teddies so they really pop. Show us when it is finished.

Ditto, the stippling around the teddies would really make them stand up! Cute quilt!

Thank you all. I like your ideas.

cute quilt. love those teddies.

I'd stitch around the teddies, and I'd quilt teddies into the border as well.

Agree with fine stipple around TB's, then cross hatch other. Agre also with teddybear in the border!!! This is a very cute and creative quilt.

Definatly agree with the teddy bears inthe borders.

If this were me I would do some echo stiching---stitching around the teddy bears and then following the strips of the rail fences.

wolfkitty 08-04-2011 11:33 PM

Ooo, I love that kit! I've been looking at it for a while now, but I have so much else to do first. I would outline the teddies, then maybe STID for the rest. Teddies in the border would be nice, if you can do it! Good luck!

Me too. That is a very pretty quilt. Love the colours and design.

This quilt looks like you've made it for someone to snuggle and cuddle under and to love. If you quilt it too closely as in stipple or even a lot of the FMG you will make it stiff and it will lose that wonderful cuddle quality. Go with outlining the Teddies and SITD suggestions. You've done a wonderful job!

I like the idea of stitching around each teddy, and then stippling the back ground. I can see something fun in each os the rails -- such as hearts in one, and then stars in the next one... something like that. And then a chain of teddyies or stars around the outer border. Maybe even a chain that had teddies AND stars!

Granny Quilter 08-05-2011 07:16 AM

cute quilt

catrancher 08-05-2011 08:13 AM

I would probably SITD on the strips (or just straight lines, if you prefer) and stitch around the bears. Cute quilt.

I like the idea of a chain of teddies around the border but I am not talented enough to do it freehand. Anyone know where I can get a free pantograph or template to follow?

Would you not use the same Teddy as you have used in the quilt top? Trace around it and then quilt it? If you want it to be smaller, reduce its size on the photocopier, to what fits and looks best on your quilt.
