The size 14 topstitch is the same size as a 14 universal or 14 microtex. The difference is the topstitch needle has a larger eye and longer scarf, which means less friction on the thread. King Tut is a thicker thread, which is why Superior recommends a topstitch needle for it.

I have only one spool of King Tut and I use a 90 topstitching as they recommended. I'd like to work on building up a stash of King Tut variegated thread, but I'm not there yet. A quilting needle would also work.

I use the King Tut thread almost exclusively to quilt with and I use the 90/14 topstitch needles recommended on the label and have never had a problem-no matter which direction I sew. I appreciate the information given and feel like it is there to give the consumer the best experience possible.

Help me, please. I'm trying to straight-line quilt a baby quilt. I'm using the King Tut variegated with a 90/14 quilting needle and using my walking foot.

The top thread is pulling too much to the underside of the quilt. Do I tighten or loosen the top tension?

I too like king Tut thread. And really like the top stitch needles they sale. But have used, quilting too. Pudge, upper tension to Loose tighten the tension and Pull the knots up. Or Lossen the tension Drop the knots down.

I tightened the upper tension and the stitch is okay now. I just do not like this thread on the machine I'm using. I am going to hold off quilting until I get home in a few weeks and then I'll use my Babylock Jane. She'll handle this thread, I'm sure.

Washing your quilt will close up the holes caused by a needle. Thicker threads need a larger eye needle to reduce the friction and shreading that can happen with a smaller needle.

Always ,match your needle to your thread to avoid problems. 90 /14 topstitch is what you need. Check out superior threads web site..they have videos on needles and theead. The thread manufacturer knows best. When finished with your quilt and son't want to wash it, lightly steam it..since it is crib size.

I love King Tut variegated threads. I use them on my DSM with a 90/14 quilting needle, and I also use them on my sit-down long arm machine.

I have quilted with a lot of King Tut thread, and love it. I mostly use a 90/14 quilting needle, and have tried the top stitch needle but didn't notice any difference either way. On my machine (Janome 8900) I prefer to use Aurifil 50wt in the bobbin and adjust the tension to avoid thread blobs on the back. One thing I use with all thread and every machine, is a thread stand. The few extra inches from the thread stand gives the thread a little more time to unwind and relax before hitting the tension disks, and I never have trouble with shredding or skipping.
