I started out with a $40 Singer and several years ago bought me the Brother cs6000i and used it like 6 ways to Sunday. I now have the Brother SE350 and love love love it. Haven't learned the embroidery part yet but still love it. It has a couple of stitches that the 6000i doesn't have and sews faster.

Congratulations on your new machine. What a wonderful hubby!

I got my new machine about 15 years ago. I got it because it was all mechanical and I still love it. We bonded! It is just a New Home Limited but it was the first machine that didn't give me a lot of fits and it isn't tempermental. I appreciate this machine. Since that time, I've bought vintage Singer sewing machines which I have always loved, but I have to admit that I would never get rid of that New Home Limited. To me, it is the tops!

Hope you have threaded that beautiful machine and at least tested every button! It's wonderful!

I have a Brother machine, and so does my DH. Mine cost about $165 on eBay, and his cost $89 at WalMart. We both do all our piecing on them. They are good, basic machines for that purpose. I have had mine for 2 years now. He has had his for 1 year. My Mom has the same as his, and she also likes it fine. Although they are not top of the line or have all the bells and whistles, they do the job reliably. If I were going out to spend $$ thousands on a new machine, I would still get a Brother because of my good experience with them. That's my 2 cents worth!! :D
