New Fabric Department!
Hey everyone! I just wanted to share my excitement with you guys. I have such exciting news!!!
Wait for it....Wait for it.... My local Walmart just incorporated a fabric section! WOOHOO! One ecstatic girl right here! |
Congrats!!! Enjoy!!!!
Wonderful! Wish my WalMart had a fabric section.
That is great.
Yeeeeeeehaaaaaaawww!
Good for you. Ours has had one for a long time.
Ours used to, till they super sized it. Never could understand that. The fabric Dept. was always busy, and always aline of ladies waiting to get fabric cut! If you saw something you liked you better buy it right then, or it would be gone.
Ours only sells fq and jellyrolls and some charm packs now. Wish they would sell more.
Lucky you, mine does not have a single thread of fabric, took it all out a few years ago... and they used to at least have batting...not anymore. Anything sewing related is less than 1/8 of an isle... my grocery store has the same stuff.
Good for you. Ours never lost theirs, and awhile ago they made it bigger and redesigned it. I think I must live in a quilting belt. There are about 8 quilt shops in a 25 mile stretch of a highway that goes right past my house. That's not counting WalMart and JoAnn's. I count myself lucky.

Lucky you! They took ours out and we only have a few pre-cuts now.

Walmart in Plano Illinois has also resurrected the fabric section...altho it is now quite small (compared to Ottawa Illinois) hoping whoever is in charge here will be aggressive and bring in more fabric choices..........time will tell........
They brought fabric back to only one of 3 stores near me ... but it's half FLEECE and the other half is fabric that isn't even as good as before ... (sounds a lot like Joann's here !)
Lucky you. Wish ours would.
doin' a happy dance for you!! (don't look! it isn't pretty):o:D
Thats great-here in Scotland we don't have Wallmart, but Asda Stores-they are a subsiduary of Wallmart.
Wish they sold fabrics-I would never be away from it! |
Myers now has fabric also
Congratulations! (but I am jealous) Mine still doesn't have anything like that.
Enjoy!! I used to be able to buy a cute print of teddy bears that were pastel colors and looked gingham-y. Don't know how else to say that. The new section in our WalMart isn't carrying it, but I keep checking. Meanwhile, it's close to home and great for interfacings, etc., and they do have some cute fabrics.
Ours recently re-opened here, too. It isn't as extensive as it was before, but closer to me than Joann's or any other fabric stores. Handy does mean plenty to me!
congrayts!! I don't know who had the brilliant idea to do away with a fabric section to start with but hope they realize what a mistake they made. It also appears that some of their fabric is of a bit better quality than before yet they still have "cheap" stuff too
Ours use to be great! The manager really knew good material and accessories from bad ones. Last year they decreased the size, brought in lots of less and cheaper material and you really have to be careful what you buy. They still carry a small section of batting but not all sizes. My LQS is very good but does not have as big of selection as some stores.

Congratulations! Happy shopping!
Wonderful! I am lucky that my Wal-Mart has always had a large fabric selection. Quilting fabrics, fleece, lace, you name it. Some people choose not to shop at Wal-Mart, but, I have purchased many yards of fabric from them. Enjoy!
Be careful what you buy. The Wally store here has a lot of ''fabrics'' made in Pakistan and Mexico and the contents are unknown ? I'm clueless as to what that means exactly. I bought a 1/3 yd piece to re-trim a doll blanket - I stay stitched it before washing it and it raveled beyond the stitches by a couple inches. I took it with me back to the store to show them and when I pulled the bolt it read made in Pakistan of unknown content and because I sewed on it and washed it my money was unrefundable. At least it was a cheap lesson. So read the end tabs to save yourself money and time.

The reason that Wal-Mart removed the fabric section and many other items from their stores is because a few years ago they hired a new president. He wanted to upscale the store and get rid of old-fashioned things. After he did that, Wal-Mart lost a lot of customers. That guy has since been fired and a new president installed.
We have fat quarters fat eighths some half yard cuts, would be nice if they came back with bolts batts and thread.
I was so happy when they put the fabric departments back in at both Wally's in our town. Then Jo-Ann's came back .. Wooooooooohoooooooooooo.. I still shop LQS, Hobby Lobby and whereever else (online or off) that I can find for good reasonably priced materials.
All I can say is shop till you drop or just stand there and drool for a while if the hubs is with you. LOL |
Had a nice one in our Wally World too......till they said Super Size Me. FQs and sme really really ugly jelly rolls are all we have now.
I know how you feel. Walmart in Newport almost went away but now it's back and they have really great fabrics reasonably priced,
We will be getting ours back when Walmart does the remodel in Feb. and it will be nice to have somewhere local to buy fabric again.
Of two that I frequent, One has yardage the other not. The one with yardage has no one immediately available to cut, You have to wait for someone clear accross the store to come & cut. Usually a long wait. My time is to vaulable, unless it is something I abdsolutely have to have. Chain fabric stores & LQs have someone there all the time, also they are knowledgable about fabric & quilting-sewing.

Keep watch, they are supposed to be bringing them back, class lawsuit that if they had fishing and tools for men, they needed to have sewing for women. We always had one here, and super WalMart 15 miles from here went to very small material/sewing department. I was in there last week and it is larger than it used to be. So you may get a supprise, and ask store manager or assistant when they are bring it back to your store. The will do what customers want if enough push for it. And contact corporate too and ask. I find a lot of fabric in there that is good and great designs, and alot of it going to more of a quilt shop cordinated fabrics type set up.
All us quilters gave them what for and I think all of the Walmart stores are putting fabric back in. Yay for savings
The Wally closest to me is remodeling, maybe we'll get fabric. We lost our aquarium a year ago, maybe it will come back, too.
Congratulations. Maybe a Wal-Mart near me will get fabric back, as the one closest to me has a pitiful craft area, let alone fabrics, and the one just a little further away, nothing. It's disappointing, as I loved shopping the fabric dept., especially when I needed background white on white or beige on beige prints, or backing fabric. Someday maybe.
