Well I just got a look at the new 160 year machine, ok, I see what they did, it is all new and fancy but yet they are trying to make it look like the oldie! kinda like the Chevy Camero.... Well if it was like $250 - $300... I would get it, but for what they want for it...... I don't think so...... I have a Janome 9000 and a Babylock Esante and they would out do it in a flash.. But if Santa brought it to me........... I wouldn't be upset in the least!

I would love to buy a great commemorative edition Singer, but this doesn't appeal to me at all :( Price?

Yup that is too much for a small bed / neck and lots of plastic, IMHO but apparently someone will be buying it at that price.

clsurz 10-10-2011 05:45 PM

I have the Featherweight computerized machine and love it. It also has several stitches that can be used with it. HSN was selling it for $499 or some such amount and I bought it at JoAnn's online few months ago for $230 and I wouldn't trade it in for anything. This little machine is a workhorse and amazingly the only thing plastic on it is the case. Everything else is metal.

fabric_fancy 10-10-2011 05:52 PM

i'd rather have the original featherweight then this machine.

interesting info for sure...wonder why they made a cheap looking plastic case for it..when the ALPHA sew replica is metal??

lfw045 10-10-2011 05:52 PM

Wonder why they don't have it on the Singer site> Maybe I just couldn 't find it. All I could find was the Featherweight 75.

clsurz 10-10-2011 06:07 PM

I don't have this one shown. I have the FW75 66 stitches computerized.

This one shown here does not impress me at all from the look of it.

I'll take a computerized machine over a treadle or foot pedal one any day.

DonnaC 10-10-2011 06:13 PM

Wow... that is a total disappointment. I was hoping they would make something that looked like the antiques, even if it was plastic... I think it's very unattractive.

Like clsurz, I have the Model 75 computerized Featherweight, and it's a wonderful machine. Sorry to say I can't give any kudos to my Quantum L-500, which is a huge disappointment also.

This is the same Featherweight that you have that the Singer engineers finally got right just rebodied to fit the anniversary. But if you look closely and think about the 222K then you will pick up on a few other neat innovations. I have seen the estimated production figures and they are really low, and this machine will be hand built at the Singer plant and not subbed out so the quality will be outstanding. I love this machine because it is user friendly and is also handicap friendly so it does not discriminate folks that have problems with their hands and are unable to use other machines.

Say what you want but I will be dropping the $1200 for a pair and loving every minute of it.

I see it has a free arm, looks like it may have speed control so there is no need for a foot pedal. Which Singer plant; Taiwan or China? If they are keeping production numbers low they are doing themselves a favor. I'm sorry, Billy. I know you like it and if you can spare the scratch to buy them as an investment, good for you. I'm sticking with my original reaction.

I have a friend that works for Singer in the Corporate offices and he told me that it was rumored to be assembled in the USA but he said that was just what was floating around the offices. It has not even gone into full production yet from what I understand. It will be at the ISMACS convention and hopefully there will be a representative from the company that can answer the questions and fill us in more.

Lady Crafter 10-10-2011 07:52 PM

Definitely different. I think I'd like to see it up close and personal, but I, too, am inclined to spend my $$ on an original.

Lostn51 10-10-2011 07:54 PM

I really like the RAF decals being used again on the machine also!

sammygirlqt 10-10-2011 09:12 PM

I think it is "cute" looking but don't plan on buying one. The true blue FW does me just fine.

Billy I am thrilled you are going to buy (2) and then from time to time you can show us your investment.

If I understand you right, there is no foot pedal? so how does it work? I'm confused.

mummadee 10-11-2011 03:38 AM

Wow, that's pricey for something gimmicky.

dixiechunk 10-11-2011 04:08 AM

Humm....

pojo 10-11-2011 04:27 AM

Hi what is the link for this sewing machine I would like to look at it,
Thank you
pat

FERSID 10-11-2011 04:32 AM

Oooooooooo - How ugly is this? Just my humble opinion BUT it looks very cheap and cheesy.

Quilt Mom 10-11-2011 04:38 AM

It is interesting reading everyone's reactions to the anniversary machine. Thanks for posting the picture.

Ouch! With Singer's current quality I'd say that's way too much for something that is probably nothing more than pretty to look at!

Quilt Fan 10-11-2011 05:11 AM

Wonder what it weighs?

Annaleehunter 10-11-2011 05:15 AM

Can someone provide a link? I would like to see the new FW.

pumpkinpatchquilter 10-11-2011 05:26 AM

Ouch, that's a lot of money for what it is. I just don't care for it I don't think. If they are going to make a commemorative machine why don't they just use the old formula? I would buy it if it were like the old fashioned noncomputerized metal machines...after all, that's a big part of why I collect and sew on the old ones! Lol* :)

ree-nee 10-11-2011 05:32 AM

If I was going to spend money for a featherweight it would definately not be this machine.

Julieintheburg 10-11-2011 05:35 AM

I dont want to be negative or rain on anyones parade! If you love the new Featherweight, I think you should get it. I have an old one and love to use it occasionally for piecing, but end up missing so many features my other maching has such as the needle down. That being said, I guess I can see the appeal of the new ones. It's like having the best of both worlds. But when I saw what they look like, it just seemed sort of....wrong.

pippi65 10-11-2011 05:46 AM

Sorry....but that's just ugly!! Not to mention the price!! What are they thinking? I'll stick to my old ones thank you!! Thanks for showing us.

That's good to know! I would have assumed it's plastic inside, too. Hmmmm... and it wouldn't stink like the old FWs.

Did you notice how narrow the throat is on this machine! And I complain about my Brother with a 5" throat. Compared to this Singer's I could land planes on mine. LOL

Val in IN 10-11-2011 06:27 AM

I guess I'm in the minority here. I like the way it looks. Kind of "modern-retro". I would consider buying it with a few qualifiers. Must be metal (body and gears), must be made in USA, and I would have to take a test drive. Singer hasn't had a good track record lately so I would definitely be looking for the "qualifiers". Just because their quality hasn't been good for a while, doesn't mean that they haven't been listening to the negative feedback and trying to make changes. If you got one and it didn't perform, it could always go back.

wvdek 10-11-2011 06:45 AM

I like the decals being used again. The color makes me think my blueberry jam got mixed up with something it shouldn't have.
This machine does not appeal to me even if I had the bucks to throw down for it.

TexasGurl 10-11-2011 06:48 AM

WHAT were they thinking ? IMHO it's kind of ugly, no matter what price point ! Tacky Blue plastic is Retro ? No metal and no throat space ?
Can't improve on the Original FW

GramaLaura 10-11-2011 07:06 AM

AWESOME!!!! I WOULD LOVE ONE :-D

Happy Linda 10-11-2011 07:17 AM
