A nut pick works great. Just have cut off the sharp end of the pick and grind it smooth.

I also use a grapefruit spoon - the little ridges keep it from slipping.

I found that a metal pick that comes with the nut crackers set works really well it has two grooves in the end that the pins set in it works great.

A grapefruit spoon works for me.
