Yesterday at my community quilts meeting a lady had one of these. I need one!! I'm so tired of poking my fingers and breaking my nails when I pin. I'm going to look for one today.

Do you have one? What do you use to close pins?

I have never seen one before. I'll have to check that out.

Riversong 03-05-2011 05:29 AM

Yes, I have one and I like it. I got it in a secret pal trade.

I've seen them, but for me it would just be something else to put down and then not be able to find it. Like my pins are always on the other side of my large table when I need more.

I use a small teaspoon that I slip under the pin when closing it, keeps me from putting a ridge in my fingernail. I keep the spoon and a tweezer in the box I keep my pins it so it's always handy when I need it. I use the tweezer to pull out loose threads poking out of seams. May in Jersey

I bought one at jo anns with a 40% off. I seen a vidieo of it and "had to have" It is very handy!

Nana2Sew 03-05-2011 06:38 AM

I have one and find it very useful.

quiltsRfun 03-05-2011 07:25 AM

I use a grapefruit spoon.

LastGrandma 03-05-2011 07:35 AM

I use a crochet hook (since I can't crochet worth beans!!). LOL

kathy 03-05-2011 07:36 AM

I LOVE it! it has grooves the hold the pin, makes fast work of basting, you hold it in your nondominate hand which seems odd at first

CarrieAnne 03-05-2011 07:36 AM

I will have to look for one!

AliKat 03-05-2011 07:47 AM

I have had mine for years. I loved it. The arthritis is so bad now I can't use it anymore. Darn.

I have 2 of them--one for a helper--and I couldn't pin a quilt without 'em. Am looking into maybe purchasing some Pinmoors to see how they work.

aorlflood 03-05-2011 07:59 AM

I have one and LOVE it! Couldn't do safety pins without it anymore! :)

thepolyparrot 03-05-2011 09:12 AM

I use mine with the basting gun, too, not just safety pins.

I push the needle all the way from top to bottom and back to the top, use the Kwik Klip to push the fabric to the base of the needle and pull the trigger.

If you have a nut pick (seafood pick) you can use the handle on that, too - it's got nice ridges to cradle the pin on the safety pin or the needle on the basting gun.

agdetrick 03-05-2011 09:19 AM

Very handy!

QuiltnCowgirl 03-05-2011 09:23 AM

I have one & don't like using it. Therefore it is just rolling around in a drawer & will never ever be used. PM me your address & I will mail it to you.

Dolphyngyrl 03-05-2011 09:23 AM

Ive heard some people use a grapefruit spoon as well

CoyoteQuilts 03-05-2011 09:30 AM

I use a wooden point turner.

nativetexan 03-05-2011 09:32 AM

yep i got one when i used pins a lot. lately i've pinned some borders and can't find my kwik Klip so i got out a white pointed Hera marker and used it to hold the pin tip up while I close it. worked fine. grapefruit spoons also work.

leakus 03-05-2011 09:34 AM

I have it and love it!

davidwent 03-05-2011 09:41 AM

Got mine at quiltinaday and absolutely love it

frarose 03-05-2011 09:54 AM

I bought one of those when it first came out. I used it all the time but now I have found with the curved pins I don't really have a problem.

Sadiemae 03-05-2011 10:02 AM

I have one somewhere..,.

Wanda_GA 03-05-2011 10:08 AM

If you pin your quilts this is the most important notion tool you can own. It saves on your fingers, and so easy to use.

LivelyLady 03-05-2011 03:08 PM

I use mine every time I pin baste my quilt. I'm right handed so I hold it in my left hand, slip the pin through the sandwiched quilt so the end of pin slides right over the tool (which you hold flat to the fabric) and just push the pin top down,....click, it's closed. Save a lot of time and pricked/tired fingers.

pattypurple 03-05-2011 04:39 PM

I agree with those who say they can't pin a quilt without it. My nails are very brittle and never could stand up to the trauma of pinning. One of the Must Have tools as far as I'm concerned

Joeysnana 03-05-2011 04:56 PM

I love my Kwik Klip. One of my best purchases!

cathylynn 03-05-2011 07:05 PM

I have one and do use it. helps keep my fingers from wearing out pinning/unpinning when quilting the quilt.

QuiltswithConvicts 03-05-2011 07:15 PM

With my arthritis, I wouldn't be able to close the safety pins. With this miracle tool, it's no problemo! I keep it in the tin with my pins.

BTW - I keep a package of dessicant in the tin with my pins for basting. It's that pouch of stuff that comes in boxes with your shoes, in purses or anything else they don't want to get mouldy. It keeps the pins from rusting.

hunters grammy 03-05-2011 07:29 PM

The Kwik Klip works great! I keep it in my sewing basket. I also use the Purple Thingy - it helps with closing the pins too. Sure does save your fingers.

running1 03-05-2011 07:32 PM

I love mine!! all those pins are closed in just a few minutes, fairly pain-free!!

Dina 03-05-2011 07:35 PM

I love mine. I have only been quilting a little over a year, and it is the best thing I have found that helps me survive the sandwiching process! I can use it with either hand, I didn't realize it was supposed to go in the not dominant hand. May have to see if leaving it in one hand makes the process go faster. It is pretty speedy already!

hunters grammy 03-05-2011 07:45 PM

The purple thingy is tough and so user friendly. The size of it is great!

Thank you, but I found one at my LQS today :D

sueisallaboutquilts 03-05-2011 10:26 PM

I love that tool! Money well spent! :D:D

Mary L Booth 03-06-2011 03:20 AM

I use the rubber fingers from office supply

Yooper32 03-06-2011 04:40 AM

I love mine and use it often. I keep it in a tall candy tin on my sewing table which holds markers, pencils, pens of many sorts and whatever else falls in there.

jtquilts 03-06-2011 04:41 AM

I was given one years ago by a non-quilting friend and I love it and use it often!

Janet My 03-06-2011 04:48 AM

I bought a few small packages of the curved safety pins... pinned a lap quilt and boy what a pain that was. (My finger were like a pin cushion) I got one of these handy helpers. I love it.
