New (to me) Tool I Found Helpful for Flying Geese Type Blocks
I walked into a class last week with all of my pieces cut up, ready to sew. I informed the instructor that I did not want to draw lines on the back of my little squares in preparation for making my 160 flying geese blocks. I don't want to draw the lines, I don't like drawing the lines, etc.
As I was preparing to figure out how to lay tape on my machine so I'd have a straight edge to run the corner of my little sqaure along as I sewed it to the rectangle, the instructor suggested this tool. It was relatively short money and will do more than just one thing so I did purchase it with my class discount. I have to say that I've never had an easier time getting those little squares sewn on so they fold over near-perfectly. Usually, I'm resewing many of them. I only had to resew a half-dozen or so. It's called the Angler 2. http://www.fatquartershop.com/store/...46&Parent_Ids= |
the only thing i don't like is that you have to take it off each time to refill your bobbin
|
WOW! I want one of those!

I love mine!
|
I have one of those, and yes, it does make it easier for flying geese, snowball, and square in a square.
|
I'll stick with Eleanor Burns method much easier.
|
I Love the Angler 2!!
|
160 Flying Geese? I can't wait to see this quilt! Please post! :)
|
Thank you. I will be looking for one of those. Like you I hate to draw lines.

A similar item is here: http://www.newleafstitches.com/index...d=15&Itemid=40
I haven't used it - just thought it was interesting and might be further investigated later on in my quilt making travels. Shari |
I have the AnglerII and Pam Bono's dvd showing her techniques using it. The DVD is worth having.
Everyone is my guild now uses the one seam flying geese method. We are all too lazy to do much of any detail cutting anymore. LOL. A math brain member made a chart for all the finished sizes. |

As to the one-seam method, I've seen that one as well. For me personally, I don't care for the pockets. It would be a great method if you were going to quilt inside the triangle which would close it. |
I have one of those! Now where did I put it? I bought it at the quilt show last year....
|
I'll stick with the Ricky Tim's method...EZPZ
|
Thanks for the link. I'm new to quilting and need all the help and info I can get.
|
This sounds great! Thanks for posting! (and DO put a picture up when you finish).

I use the Angler 2 all the time. Love it.
|
That looks really handy! I'm getting ready to make 12 feet of border with diamonds and I bet that would help a lot.
Hope you post all your flying geese when you get your quilt finished! |

That was one of the first tools I ever bought. I did the snowball quilt and it had 920 2 1/2 inch squares. I was very happy to NOT have to draw lines lol
|
You might also want to try Eleanor Burn's method. She has a Quilt in a Day book out on Flying Geese and also a special ruler with the instructions in it. My geese have turned out really well since I started using her method.

Could not get newleafstitches to work.

The one from New Leaf looks about the same but it is printed on flexible vinyl thereby possibly avoiding any sharp edges that your fabric might or might not get hung up on. I haven't used either the New Leaf nor the other one listed at the beginning of this thread. Shari |
awesome information here, I want one!
|
Well never I never knew such a thing existed. Thanks for the link.
|
What I love about this board, always new things and new ideas. Now more to check out!:)

I use Fons and Porter ruler for flying geese or my Accuquilt GO dies.
|
It is always nice to see new notions. Thanks for the link.

Can someone please explain how this works, I have one, but don't know what to do with it? Can you please PM me, with any ideas on how this plastic lined template works. Thanking you in advance.

Looks like a great tool. Haven't done any flying geese but now looks like something I need to add to my growing list of to do quilt blocks
