I would definitely wash before gifting - just because you can fix it yourself then and there. If you wait - something may happen and he may not tell you...

I washed it--mostly because there was one batik that felt stiff as I made it and I wanted it to feel softer. It came out perfectly. It was the right decision for this one.

Ditto. My cats think all quilting projects are really new nap spaces, so just in case anyone is allergic, I always wash before I give it to them.

I wash anything I make before I gift it to someone. However, if you previously washed it, and have no cats or dogs or other furry pets, then it's fine to give it to them unwashed. I use one of those sticky roller things to get threads off. I suppose you could use the dryer.

I agree that a quilt never looks quite the same after it's been washed - that is why I wash quilts before gifting them. At least the receiver will know what it is supposed to look like instead of thinking that they ruined it.

I prewash my fabric and usually wash the finished quilt. didn't think about blocking but will give it a try. Would love to see pics of the finished quilt.
