I would definitely wash before gifting - just because you can fix it yourself then and there. If you wait - something may happen and he may not tell you...

I washed it--mostly because there was one batik that felt stiff as I made it and I wanted it to feel softer. It came out perfectly. It was the right decision for this one.

I wash anything I make before I gift it to someone. However, if you previously washed it, and have no cats or dogs or other furry pets, then it's fine to give it to them unwashed. I use one of those sticky roller things to get threads off. I suppose you could use the dryer.
I agree that a quilt never looks quite the same after it's been washed - that is why I wash quilts before gifting them. At least the receiver will know what it is supposed to look like instead of thinking that they ruined it. |
I prewash my fabric and usually wash the finished quilt. didn't think about blocking but will give it a try. Would love to see pics of the finished quilt.

i do not wash a gift quilt , but i do send color wash sheets with the reason for sending them , so far no problems
