Hey, I've used wrong side of the fabric on purpose... The "wrong" side was a much prettier shade of blue than the "right" side...

And then there's the well known mantra

"Check your bobbin thread often."

Just today, I sewed, or thought I sewed an outer border (at least 70") without bobbin thread. Frustrated the heck out of me that I had to stop and replace the bobbin thread. Hate that when I'm on a roll.

But why is it that we never learn? You would think that after almost 30 years of quilting I wouldn't make that mistake over and over, but I do!

galvestonangel 06-20-2010 08:42 PM

I thought I had it, but alas I did it again tonight. I need to practice the mantra some more.

Been there, done that!

Yet another reason I love batiks... no wrong side!

I've done it too, and what's worse I didn't notice until the top was put together. Since it was a WOW I'd reversed, the mistake showed up MUCH better from a bit of a distance than it did putting the block together.

Me, too! I still have a WIP that has two of the HSTs going the opposite way...I may just leave it as a conversation piece....or try putting a zipper in, being frustrated for 1/2 hour, only to have it go in like a dream...and having it end up on the right side instead of the left! Nope...did NOT rip it out...I wore it as is for a long time!

I've turned some for applique if the back side is closer to the color I want.

I've heard this, too, that there should always been one mistake in every quilt because it proves that no one is perfect.

Baloonatic 06-23-2010 02:13 PM

O yes I always turn a block sideways and on purpose too. No honest!

maryb119 06-23-2010 02:42 PM

I have done that too. My Pfaff dealer calls a seem ripper "our best friend". She is so right!

cmagee84 06-23-2010 02:48 PM

I actually did that and didn't notice until the queen sized quilt was completely finished!!! Fortunately, it was a neutral and is not noticeable. It is on my bed and I sometimes forget where it is!
