I have recently been told of a Lil twister quilt with a Christmas tree shape and another that's a heart or a heart wreath. Has anyone seen these or have any ideas about how to make them? Thanks to all the kind and talented folk on this board, I'm hooked on the twister tool!

BellaBoo 08-29-2011 04:57 PM

I found this one on the board:

Our LQS has the Christmas Tree Twister for an upcoming course. A friend showed me the Twister Wreath that she made just last week.

I haven't been "sold" on Twisters ... til I saw these two and yes, now I want to do them too!

Twister Tree I would love to know what that looks like. I have an idea how you would lay it out but would like to see one actually done.

Sorry ... I don't have a link with a picture ... The display one was done in traditional red and green, though I think you could have fun doing it in other colours greens and golds, perhaps? etc.

Does anyone know of any online free patterns for Twisters ... without breaching copyrights?

The Christmas tree is fabulous, Bonnie. How'd your heart go? THanks so much to you all. I have made a couple of the wreaths--one for Christmas and another with fall leaf fabrics! I love them both and my bee members were so impressed that they're making them too! I should add that I've bought both sizes of the twister tools and a book, but I think I learned the most looking at tutorials and examples on this board!.

QuiltE 08-29-2011 06:08 PM

I know you use 5" squares to start. And am now wondering what size the template is when you cut them apart? Could someone please tell me? Thanks!!!

marymm 08-29-2011 06:14 PM

sorry, my fingers must be flying without instructions, i didn't mean too post all these!

marymm 08-29-2011 06:15 PM

QuiltE, . You might want to do a search a tutorial for ""Lil Twister"...The tool used to cut the pinwheels is about 3 1/2 inch's square. I bought the tool, but there are instructions on how to make a similar one. They really are rather addicting. The big one is really fast and fun, too. mary

marymm 08-29-2011 06:16 PM

another burp in posting!

Not sure what you're saying ... that there are instructions for making another tool, when you purchase the Lil Twister? Or that these instructions are somewhere else, so you don't need to purchase?

BMP 08-29-2011 06:17 PM

I have done the wreath(Christmas) and a few runners (Halloween) I do like making them ...that tree is the one I would like to do next. I worked out a heart but I think I need to tweek it a little before I do it.

"Not sure what you're saying ... that there are instructions for making another tool, when you purchase the Lil Twister? Or that these instructions are somewhere else, so you don't need to purchase?[/quote]

See if this is clearer: There are tutorials on the web on both how to use the Twister TOOL and how to Make a tool very SIMILAR. The book has several variations of the basic patterns. My book--the first on twisters--did not have the wreath, but I found it on the board. I believe the twister is possibly a spinoff from a quilt originally called "Magic Pinwheels" featured in an Australian magazine a few years ago. I think that the purchased tool is a good deal.

Bonnie, I think the tree won't be too hard. Now I want to play with the heart too!

I have patterns that I purchased at a quilt show on how to make a JOY banner and an American Flag with the twister templates

The christmas tree would be a great advent calendar.

How to lay out the wreath.

Here is a link I posted several months ago about how to make your own twister. I would draw it on paper and then reduce it to a smaller size.

I just read somewhere on the net there is also a twister pumkin pattern...I tried finding a pic but came up empty !!

marymm 08-30-2011 04:14 AM

Looks like the possibilities are endless. I haven't seen many actual patterns other than the book, but will start looking. Maybe if I cut out a few of the pinwheel patterns and started playing with paper shapes, some of them would come to life!

marymm 08-30-2011 04:29 AM

Just found that Stephany Ivers designed patterns for JOY and for flag. http://gatheringroomquiltshop.com/id70.html Patterns are available at this site--probably the ones you bought, Jim, since I notice the Gathering Room is in Kentucky. So many creative people in this world!

Who makes the patterns and can you get them online ???
OOPS you must have posted at the same time as me...THNAKS for the link...I am still on the hunt for the pumpkin.

Patched 08-30-2011 04:41 AM

I didn't think I wanted to do the twister patterns, but the more I read and see I'm getting more and more anxious to try it.

marymm 08-30-2011 05:08 AM

Bonnie, check this site. It is a quilt shop in Katy, Tx---not far from where I live. They are teaching a twister pumpkin and other Halloween designs, including pumpkin....really cute. Called "Boo Twister." I'll try to telephone them later and see if they sell the patterns.

gramarraine 08-30-2011 05:25 AM

A friend told be that to find the place to put the line just divide the size of the template by 4. So if you were using a 4" template the lines would be 1" from the sides. I hope this helps.

Thanks...I am jealous I want to get these patterns....I can almost figure them out but would like to have them to be sure.

ncredbird 08-30-2011 05:42 AM

The flag twister looks really nice but not sure if just the star part or the whole flag is done with the twister tool. I have no local classes near where I live. It would be 90 miles + so a class is not an option.
Hope someone posts a tut for the tree and the flag in the future.
