Learned to do this in Jr. High School many many years ago.

This is the only way I will do it, soooo much easier. I have a chart I got years ago that shows me how big a square I need to get the length of bias needed.

This is a great method for making binding. I use it to.

It has been said that it creates more seams in the binding and some are turned off by that. I think having more sections makes it easier to replacce as binding gets worn. Just un- sew it between two seams and replace that one section.

When doing quilts for shows I do use the longest bias strips I can so there are less seams.

I thinks it is all a matter of your needs at any time for any project.
