New way to make bias strips.
I am wondering if I am the only one who just found out about the continuous binding that is not cut apart and sewed up again? I saw it on Youtube, and I tried it. I got over 3 yards of double fold bias binding from a fat quarter. It is unbelievable an so easy, much easier than the traditional way. You can log onto You tube and search for continuous bias binding, and you will see how it is made. It surely has made things easier for me.

That method has been around for years. In fact I have a chart that I give out in lass that shows the amount of different widths of binding you can get from various sizs of squares. It also has an illustration of the method.

I have always done it this way, it is so much easier.

I learned how to do that last year, but I always have to watch the video to get it right.

Can you share the You Tube site?

If you have never done it and didn't know about it, then it is a new and wonderful thing. Doesn't matter if your grandma did it that way. I am so glad you learned something new.
This reminds me of my sister-in-law, she makes beautiful pieced quilts. She wanted to put on some letters for her new grandchild. She had no idea how to do that. We realized she had never done any applique. |
This is new for me. Thank you!!!

It really is the best way to make binding for all quilts, even if you don't have curves in your binding. In watching Jenny's video though I see that when she cut the fabric at the beginning she didn't use the triangular piece that she cut off. I learned to start with a piece of fabric and mark 2 opposite ends each with a pin. Then, fold up your triangle at one of the pinned ends and cut. You then sew that piece back on over the opposite side (right sides together) before marking you bias strips and sewing the tube. That way you get even more bias binding and don't waste the first triangular cut piece.

There is always another way to do everything! Glad to see you found a way that works for you!
