It is here !! It is here !!!! She has just posted the start of this years New Years Day Mystery quilt  How many are going to play along this year ? I will be doing it WOO HOO here is the link for all to check it out

http://www.planetpatchwork.com/mystery135/default.htm

I did last years mystery and even roped my mom , sister and Sister in Law into doing it.... hopefully they will be game again this year.

How many of you have done a Mystery Quilt ?

maryb119 12-10-2012 04:55 PM

Mystery quilts are fun to do. I amazes me that everybody can use the same pattern and directions and yet each quilt is so different form the next one. They are so much fun to do! Thanks for posting this.

nhweaver 12-10-2012 05:10 PM

I am going to start this, this will be my first mystery quilt.

thimblebug6000 12-10-2012 05:20 PM

Hmmmm.....

Wyldwytch 12-10-2012 05:27 PM

Will have to check this out, have never done one before. Guess now is the time..:)

Looks like fun, but I don't think I'll have time to do it this year. This is on my bucket list, though. I really think it would be a great time!

grammy of 6 12-10-2012 08:03 PM

What do you have to do to be notified of the beginning of the mystery? Is there anywhere where you can sign up?

sharon b 12-10-2012 08:12 PM

I don't think they send updates- you can get the first set of cutting directions now and then go back on New Years Day and get the rest- they also leave them up for a short time afterwards in case you don't finish in one day :)

grammy of 6 12-10-2012 08:25 PM

Thanks Sharon. Give us another reminder come Jan 1st please. I'm sure ! wont remember, some days I can hardly remember my name ;)

Elisabrat 12-10-2012 08:32 PM

Judy here at the QB is going to do a short mystery quilt in January and a larger one mid Feb. I just finished her mystery train .. they are located in the block of the month forum here.. see what they are like instructions to finish to get a good idea of how something like this runs. I am off to check out that site and thanks for posting. I really like doing them.

frustratedquilter40 12-10-2012 08:55 PM

I have done several mysteries love them. Thanks for posting the link

Murphy1 12-10-2012 09:39 PM

This looks fun and will be a first for me. I will reread the directions and get ready - after I finish the holiday gifts.

franie 12-10-2012 10:04 PM

I am doing Bonnie Hunter's "Easy Street". She has posted step #3 but I have not finished #1 yet. It is a fun one but getting the time to sew anything is my problem. Check out Quiltville for Bonnie's latest.

rush88888 12-11-2012 04:04 AM

i have done a mystery quilt in one sitting with several other women. i was a little slower than the others, so when they were done, they showed off their quilt tops. mine wasn't too much of a surprise, but i sure to like it. since then, i have used the same directions again in another quilt, and it looks so different. next time, i don't think i will sit in a room with others that are willing to show off before i had even finished. i wasn't THAT far behind!

bcross 12-11-2012 05:50 AM

Like Franie I am currently doing Easy Street by Bonnie Hunter and am really enjoying it. It will be my first mystery quilt and I think I'll try this one as well. Hopefully I can get it done in one day, but I expect it will take me a little longer.

jclinganrey 12-11-2012 06:18 AM

Yep. Doing Easy Street too. I need to finish some projects before I take on any more new ones. Hope you post pictures!

Franie - - I hope you're taking Bonnies' suggestion and at least starting each new step as she presents them. That way, you'll have some sense of what's going on.

Looks great. I hope someone can do a reminder for us as I'm apt to forget to download part 2!!

maminstl 12-11-2012 08:42 AM

I'm in - sounds fun - hopefully won't be too complicated for a novice quilter. I can now spend a few hours cruising the web looking for some great sale fabrics

b.zang 12-11-2012 07:45 PM

Thanks, sharon b.
I've done a few mystery quilts, and planet patchworks are well written and easy to follow. Think I'll do this one, too.

MarieM 12-12-2012 04:33 AM

This looks like fun. I think I'll shop my stash and see what I can come up with.

coopah 12-12-2012 05:33 AM

Looks like fun, but I like to hang out with Judy on her Mystery Train quilts offered on this QB. We have a nice group of ladies who "travel" together and that makes it fun. Also, the banter back and forth is a lot of fun.

KarenR 12-12-2012 06:44 AM

Thanks for post it - I looked the other day for it.

It's funny what some of us look forward to on New Year's Day.

KarenR 12-12-2012 06:45 AM

I guess I really love the discussion on the quilt the day of the mystery.

I just wish they would not have it on facebook. I like it the way they had the chat room about 4 years ago.

MamaLinda 12-12-2012 06:47 AM

This looks like something I'd love to try. How many sections are there usually? Since I've never done a mystery quilt, the whole process will be new, hopefully not too challenging.

Amythyst02 12-12-2012 07:31 AM

Darn, I just don't have the time to devote to this, this year, will be making my daughters wedding dress. That will pretty much take up any free time I have.

cjr 12-12-2012 10:11 AM

Thanks sharon, I'd like to do this. Please post us a reminder

misseva 12-12-2012 10:19 AM

OK you know there's always one like me in the crowd. Do you have any suggestions for different colors? Like bright, pastel, or something besides grey, black, etc?

Robinlee 12-12-2012 01:59 PM

I am going to try another.....have done a few, completed one, almost done with 2nd.

leighway 12-12-2012 06:54 PM

I, too am doing Easy Street but this new one promises to be contemporary so I have to do it!

Xtgirl 12-12-2012 07:38 PM

I like the colors of this mystery. I did the planet patchwork New Years mystery with people on quilting board last year and had a lot of fun. If I can get the fabric together, I think I will attempt to join in. I'm also doing Bonnie hunters mystery and am already behind but I like these colors!!!!

Beehiveof9 12-12-2012 08:35 PM

I've never done a mystery quilt before, and would love to try this! Like everyone else I'm in the throes of Christmas prep, so this will be a treat to look forward to after the holiday rush. I think I'll also shop my stash and see what I can come up with. If not, then off to the LQS I go!

newbiequilter 12-13-2012 08:21 AM

Thank you for posting this. I will check it out. I am presently doing Bonnie Hunter's mystery and enjoying it. My first mystery and a challenge to myself to stay on top of it.

sewdamncute 12-13-2012 04:13 PM

I've done two mysteryquilts at my guild, and unfortuately, I discovered my sense of color does not lend itself to certain patterns...I actually named one "the hideous monstrosity" ...They were fun to do though!

DOTTYMO 12-13-2012 11:29 PM

Can you just explain how it works. We log onto this location and follow instructions which come up at hourly intervals? I can send pictures no webcam.

sharon b 12-14-2012 05:26 PM

they post "clues" - the next step usually hourly. I don't have a web cam either :) We can post pics here or Ithink they said they will also have it on Facebook - but I have never had any luck with the chats they run

Xtgirl 12-15-2012 05:20 PM

Ok I caved and bought fabric for the mystery:) I pushed the boundaries with some of the fabric choices so I hope I like it when we start putting it together. I'll post my fabric tomorrow. I'm hoping I like the pattern cause I love the fabric:)

IAmCatOwned 12-15-2012 06:16 PM

I will be joining you if I can get the fabrics selected and the precutting complete. Remodeling came to a standstill, so it's kindof hard to do anything, but I can set up for 2 days. I actually NEED a lap sized guy sortof quilt for my brother, so this actually has a goal in mind.

dahlshouse 12-15-2012 06:35 PM

I am doing a Mystery Quilt now... my first one... will keep this in mind

Quossum 12-15-2012 08:16 PM

I did last year's completely from my stash and actually finished it. I'm going to look over the instructions and shop my stash for this one, too. Thanks for the link!
