We think it will be fun, we'll have exercise running between chat and sewing machine AND we'll learn something.
Debbie (Luvmy2bts) is going to teach the first one. She's going to teach us to do a "flip and stitch" table runner. I'm so excited I can't stand the wait. We talked about it in chat this morning and some of our regular chatters are upset that they are at work and can't participate. Soooo, give me a hint, how many would be here for a Saturday class? We could/can, but I don't want her to have to repeat repeat it, you know? Just tell me ANY TIME or SATURDAY Debbie will be along soon to post our requirements of fabric and batting. I know it was a picture fabric square......ok, I was GOING to write it down at the time, but we were chatting.   Hope to hear from each of you. I'm going to post it on Chit Chat, too. Just vote in one place, k? Happy Quilting, Sharon |
I would be intrested in a Saturday class, but I am working this Saturday, October 20.
Thanks DD |
Sounds like a great idea to me, I may not be able to sew along, but I can always take notes and try it later!!! You such smart cookies!!! Saturdays are usually family day here, but then you all are family too!!
|
Please count me in! What an exciting idea :D I can do it anytime, my schedule is pretty flexible. I will look forward to the post of fabric requirements and class time(s). :D
|
A suggestion - Can a transcript of class be posted for anyone who misses it?
|
I'm in for the class, I am better in the morning, if that counts. Nancy
|
I also would love to participate... My schedule is a little different.. anytime after 10am my time would be great.. However if that is not good with the others I would understand..

Class fabric requirements:
one piece of fabric 17 or 18 inches by width of fabric for backing. one piece of warm and natural or warm and white the same size. one focus fabric that is 9 inches square. Could be any picture but has to be cut on point. So that it sits not square but it sits diamond shaped. Strips of fabrics to coordinate with the middle square cut different widths anywhere from 1 1/2 inch up to 2 3/4 inch. You should have at least 6 or 7 different fabrics but more is good also. I used quite a few in mine. I think I used 20 different ones but have done them with less and that is fine too. You also need a coordinating fabric for the binding. I would use a fabric that is also in your runner. I prefer you use warm and natural cause we will be doing ironing on top of the batting and wouldn't want to have any melted messes. I hope this is going to be fun and that we have many more classes like this. Feel free to pm me or ask on the board if things are not clear to you. Debbie |
Funny you should ask, Moonpi, we are going to try to do a transcript with pictures. I so hope this will work.
I need to know where you are, Diamonds, to be sure we get your 'after 10' I think this is going to be so much fun. I know it won't be the 20th, but we'll maybe think about doing it twice and doing it with a weekday and a Saturday to follow???? Sharon |
This sounds like a lot of fun. I never know what my Saturdays are going to bring so I'm glad to hear you'll post a transcript for those of us to follow after the fact, so to speak. Hope I'm able to come play but time will tell!
Thanx to Debbie and Sharon for their organization of this fun activity. |
I would love to do it but just can't make the time yet - will in a couple of more months, though.
I would be very interested in a transcript and photos. What a cool idea!!!!! |
Thanks Debbie and Sharon for setting this up!
I have a couple of questions: How many strips will we need to cut? Do they need to be cut the width of the fabric (42-44") |
I would love to join in. Saturdays usually work for me as I have to work during the week. Just let me know.
Thanks |
Anytime of the week in the morning and anytime Sat,can hardly wait.
|
I really want to join you in this. It sounds like fun. Is this for a Christmas table runner? Or just any type of fabric we want to use? And I'm with amma on her questions about how many strips and how long they need to be. Thanks. I can set my machine up fairly close to my computer. I'm looking forward to seeing how well this goes so we can do more of them. :) I'll be checking back to see what time ya'll decide. I assume you'll be posting it EST. :)
|
This may be a dumb question but I don't understand wat you mean when you say cut on point?
|
The square block will be standing on end like a diamond, not setting in place like a square block. So you should cut your piece with that in mind so that the fabric (if it is directional) lays in the right direction.
|
Thanks y'all, waiting for my great grand baby (2 yo) to get here but can't help but check in when I have two minutes to myself.
I'll let Debbie answer the technical questions(on fabric strips, etc.), we'll decide by Monday WHEN we'll do it and let y'all know in advance. I can tell you there is no set colors or designs, Jnebug, it's whatever you love and want to do! Happy Quilting, Sharon PS, finished the new BOM block today, but have to be ready for baby Ethan so I will post it in the morning. :P |
Well, I will print out everything and hopefully get to it too... its like a mystery quilt! and I love those!! LOL
|
I love the idea of classes. However, I have to go to my parents' this weekend. I have to scrub rugs (and they seem to think that this is a wonderful spectator sport :D ). Maybe the next one.
I do like the idea of transcript. Lee |
I would cut the strips width of fabric. Random widths is best. I don't know how many strips you will need. You can always cut more but enough to cover the backing. It also depends on how many fabrics you use. You may have some waste but they can always be used in a string quilt. Sorry that I can't be more precise. I always just cut mine as I went along so then I could determine width and color as I went. I would cut the strips to fit. I know clear as mud. It will be really easy and fun.
|
I'd love to join this and Saturday is just perfect. My only problem is that Lebanon is 7 hours ahead of EST. For example, 3 p.m. EST is 10 p.m. in Lebanon. I may have to opt for the transcript, but would still love to try it. Please let me know exactly what time the lesson begins.
Connie |
Count me in. I will try to make it whenever you say. I think this will be fun but hard to keep up with the chat. When are we starting? I am getting the fabrics together today!

MimiSharon--Congratulations on the Great grandson--my first great (daughter) is a week old. What fun.
I like the idea of the quilting project--I'll have to opt for the picture transcript since I'll be out of town for the next several Saturdays. This is my favorite quilting forum and I check it often so will find your information. Thanks for doing this. |
I would like to sit in on the class, but cannot participate. I have most of my stuff packed already. If that is ok
Mary |
Everyone is welcome to come, Jessiesmom, doncha just hate having to pack everything up? Geez, I feel for you!
Hope you will be able to participate in the next one. (I'm confident this one will go well, aren't I) Hugs, Sharon |
It sounds like it's going to be a lot of fun...would love to join in but I'm having surgery Thursday and will be out of commission for a bit.
I hope everyone has a great time! :) |
will keep you in my prayers. hope surgery goes well and you bounce back quickly.
|
So sorry to hear about the surgery, wishing you a speedy recovery!
|
I can be tuned in at 7:00 AM Saturday morning or whenever. My honey is going to a football game so I get to "play" all day long that day.

Sharon & Debbie - Good Luck with your class. You guys sound very organized. I will not be near my sewing machine or computer on Saturday, but can't wait to check out the transcript. I hope it is a big success so you will do more classes. I will try to join the next time.
First the BOM and NOW a class! I am so lovin' this - I can't wait. You guys have me hooked!!! |
I'm sorry you have to have surgery. I'll keep you in my prayers for a successful surgery and a quick recovery.

Thank you,

Hi Shadow Dancer--Prayers for a fast recovery.
|
Prayers for a speedy recovery, Shadow Dancer! It's good quilting can be a healing process, isn't it. Make up a small piece to work on when you get out from under the effects.
Big hug and prayers, Sharon |
Forgot to post about the time and date........
This Saturday, October 27th, 10 AM Eastern time. Hope to have all that can... Sharon |
Thank you Sharon, and yes I do hate packing. I wish I could wriggle my nose and I would be moved and unpacked, which is just as bad as packing. ha ha Oh well!!
