In the past few years there have been lots of new babies born in my extended family and I've made each of them a little quilt, nothing too big or special pattern and quilting was stitch in the ditch. Today was the Christening of another new baby, grandneice Elizabeth Anne. Her mom was thrilled that I made Elizabeth Anne a quilt as she said the one I made for her first child, Claire Louise has been admired by everyone. Really made me feel good that she appreciated the work I put into the quilts. Another neice was at the reception with her 3 year old and 9 month old sons and both of their quitls were in the strolled this neice had with her. Just wanted to share this with the message board as so many times we feel that our quilts and effort aren't appreciated.

Seeing them being used and loved means more than a thank you note to me!

Congratulations, what an wonderful feeling. I sent DD #2 her quilt this week and for the first time in years she said "I Love You'! It was so awesome to hear those words. Appreciation goes a long way!
|
Feels good, heh???? Glad you are seeing your work/gifts appreciated
|
How wonderful that your work was acknowledged and appreciated!!!
|
so nice to hear THIS side of the story...normally it is how the quilt is ignored and the maker feels slighted and sad!
Good for you! Thanks for sharing this! |
I agree that seeing them used is the best thank-you. When I made quilts for both my niece's boys she thanked me but when she had pictures and they were laying on the quilt or wrapped in it, I felt like I was thanked all over again.

Makes you feel good to your work is loved.

I agree, it is nice to know your efforts and talents are appreciated. I talked with one quilter who said she made a queen size wedding quilt for each of her grandchildren. Until one day she visited one of their homes and found her lovely quilt thrown in the dog's bed. Unfortunately the rest of the grandchildren missed out on getting a quilt for their wedding.

Gives you a good feeling when they are used. I made one for my moms 75th and she takes it off the bed every night. I just laugh and tell her quilts are made to use. She loves the quilt and doesn't want to wear it out.

Oh...happy day!!
|
It is so nice to read that you were acknowledged so beautifuly.

That is awesome. I had given a rag quilt to a coworker when she had her first baby, then made one for baby number two. When I gave her the second one she was so excited and told me that of all the blankets and such the one I gave her was her favorite. She had told her husband that she would love another "Kathie blanket". It made me feel awesome.

I hear you. I made 3 quilts for my ggc. He is now 3 months old and in the hundreds of pictures posted of him, not once has there been anything I made or sent in any of the pictures. they won't hurt my feelings if they don't like the quilts, but since I spent many hours making them, I don't want to make him anymore if they are not going to use them.

I made a couch quilt with pug dog pictures and other dog theme blocks for a former neighbor who is very involved in pug rescue and has lots of pugs herself. I was disappointed in the results and hesitated to give it to her but she was very thrilled and told me it was the nicest thing anyone had ever done for her. Her DH kept telling me it was beautiful (not in my opinion) and she showed it to some other neighbors who also said I was nuts. There was nothing wrong with it. I guess beauty is in the eye of the beholder. I guess part of my problem was I had problems from the beginning and just wanted it done and out of my house.

Thank you for sharing that. Makes me feel warm inside.

This is great! Thanks for sharing!

Awesome

That is so nice!
Several years ago I attended the wedding of an old friend's daughter. I had not seen her in years because the marriage had split up and they lived in another state. The first thing that she mentioned was the baby blanket that I had made for her when she was born. Apparently her mother had kept it and told her that I had made it. I was so touched. You can't beat those feelings. :D :D |
I am glad you generosity was appreciated and your work admired, that what keeps us going in a way!
|
There is nothing I like to see more than a quilt well worn with love. That is why we quilt! My LQS has a sign that says "A blanket warms the body, but a quilt warms the soul!"
|
Very sweet...I know how you feel. Recently saw a neice that I had made a quilt for her baby and she said she just had to tell me that her 2.5 yr old would not go to bed unless she had her quilt I made for her baby shower. It made me happy because I don't think the neice understood the amount of work that was involved, she was somewhat underwhelmed in her response when she recieved the quilt.

ahhhhh glad you got to hear it!
