:-D :-D
After getting of work this morning I stopped by Walmart to pick up some fruit and milk.I passed the fabric dept.(which is being remodeled ) and grabbed a fullsize Fairfield 80/20 quilters batting.prize was marked at $12.97, so as I got my total on check-out she said it was $11.50.
WHATT????had to be a mistake. she said no, the battings are marked down to $5.OO. :D :D :D
I am now the proud owner of 10 fullsize battings. :-D
So if you are close to Lawton ,I left some for you.
If you have a walmart going through remodel check their battings.

Wish I was close by.....I asked at my local WalMart yesterday, and they said we're not getting any fabrics back. We only have a very few threads, some needles, and scissors. Oh, and about 2 sewing machines. Bummer! It was the only place in this town to buy any fabric at all.....

blueangel 08-13-2011 12:36 PM

Nice find.

meemersmom 08-13-2011 12:37 PM

Ah...serendipity! Wish I were closer to take advantage.

craftybear 08-13-2011 12:37 PM

WOW,

zennia 08-13-2011 12:43 PM

Nice find. I checked my WM today and nothing has changed. Still just the same few fq's,not much else for the quilters.

SEW 08-13-2011 12:46 PM

don't you just love a bargain!!!

merrylouw 08-13-2011 01:33 PM

Yea! Hooray for your great deal. Nothing like being in the right place at the right time!

debbieumphress 08-13-2011 01:44 PM

Score. Great buy. I was at our's this morning and we are getting a smaller version of the fabrics back and keeping their precuts. The batting was no on clearance . I am going to call the dept and ask to be sure. Thanks for letting us know.

Yarn or Fabric 08-13-2011 01:53 PM

Congrats!!! That is a great deal!

Honeynga 08-13-2011 02:28 PM

Sorry to hear that your WM isn't getting fabric back. I sort of thought it was a done deal that they all were getting fabric. I live in Carrollton, GA, not far from Ga/ALA line and was hoping we get fabric here...guess I need to ask. Actually, I never go to Walmart because I'm so near the local Kroger and get to use double coupons.....
I have a daughter that lives outside of Rolla, MO and their WM never lost fabric;because they are a fairly large Amish Community their fabric was never taken away...

Greenheron 08-13-2011 03:34 PM

Go, girl, go.

Sewfine 08-13-2011 03:38 PM

That's a good buy. Think I'll stop by Wal-Mart on my way home from work.

oma66 08-13-2011 03:47 PM

I got the same bargin at my Walmart - but they only had one left. So I have a full size 80/20 for just $5.00!

Jill 08-13-2011 04:25 PM

Our WM is about two years old and never carried fabrics, not even the precuts, so I don't think we'll be getting a fabric department. However, the one just 15 miles from me is getting their fabrics back, and it appears to be the same amount as before.

JUNEC 08-13-2011 04:31 PM

I found 2 bags of batting at 1 of our Walmarts for $5.00 the other day - they were clearancing some of their charms packages for $2.50 - which always makes me nervous

Maureen 08-13-2011 04:34 PM

I got fusible batting for 2.00 a yard and fusible interfacing for .50 a yard in Connecticut. The batting was 90 inch.

VickyS 08-13-2011 04:34 PM

Darn, I was just in there and didn't pay attention to the prices on the batting!

I found nice quilt material for $1.50 a yard, though! Boy did I stock up.

Our WalMart has just enhanced our fabric department, adding a row of sewing machines and a row of notions, and 3 rows of fabric and the back all types of batting. Since Joann's in our area just consolidated 3 stores into 1 and raised prices, guess where I'm hanging out these days!

mjsylvstr 08-14-2011 04:57 AM

Neptune, NJ.......

I was told the other evening that I couldn't get any fabric cut as the department was being revamped and was closed until the new fabrics came and the department would be open in a few weeks.

I didn't think to look at batting at the time but will do so on the next visit and if I am lucky, I, too, will get some good buy.

I went to Joann's in another local town and the fabric was so thin I went out empty-handed. I was really disappointed with what I found at Joann's and it was a grand opening of a newly remodeled store.

sewitseams 08-14-2011 05:01 AM

i was in our local wal-mart this week and they have taken out all pre-cuts, fat qrts included. they only have a small selection of needles, thread, etc. what's up with that? and no one will say if they are going to fabric back. the one good thing out of this is local sewing center has grown and they have some nice quilting supplies and fabrics for reasonable prices. if you take some of their classes they extend a 20% off discount card good on all regular priced items all the time.

shortstuff 08-14-2011 05:32 AM

I got the queen at two stores for 5.00 but not on sale at the other walmart.

svenskaflicka1 08-14-2011 06:09 AM

we have NO fabric now--not even precuts. there is minimal "real" sewing stuff. i did get a batt, but didn't check the price. i have to go and do that. our checkout gal said that they are not going to carry any fabric. *sigh* makes me angry...

Owllady 08-14-2011 06:14 AM

Went to WalMart last week and low and behold they are redoing the fabric again. They have just added it back a few months ago after taking it all out. It was very small. They were in the process of making it many times bigger and adding a lot of notions with many shelves to put fabric on. What a big improvement that will be. Anxious to go see what they have done. They still had all the shelves empty waiting the arrival of fabric. The ladies were trying to get all the small items in place. WOW!!

tryitall 08-14-2011 06:24 AM

Yeah, I know that feeling. Sorry!

Tweety2911 08-14-2011 06:25 AM

Great score!!

NOPE...it was never their intention to put fabric in ALL of the stores...your area has to be considered RURAL...meaning it has to meet certain demographics...not sure why ours doesn't, we are RURAL..and serve many rural areas..closest fabric store(chain) is over 2 hours away...but alas..we have been told ours will not be getting fabric back..which is really sad..as our WM fabric dept was making money....

luvstitches 08-14-2011 07:08 AM

Congrats to you!!! I know the feeling with finding a bargain. I too bought some queen size Hobbs 80/20 that was clearanced at Joanns. I still have a few bags left.
Recently I quilted a lap size quilt for a friend and she had the Fairfield 80/20 and I absolutely love it! I will buy that brand after my Hobbs is gone.

BellaBoo 08-14-2011 07:19 AM

I had the fabric dept at the local Walmart order me the Fuze A Boo batting from Fairfield. It was much cheaper then ordering it online. I use it for small quilt projects, much easier the spray basting.

Grandma Peg 08-14-2011 07:23 AM

That was wonderful.

Marysewfun 08-14-2011 08:23 AM

Looks like ours is here to stay (hope) - we are somewhat rural. There are many more people at most any given time than I ever remember seeing in there before the "no fabric scare" so it looks like they are getting good support. It is almost like we have a sort of "knowing" smile at each other - we keep buying they will work to keep us happy!!

Annz 08-14-2011 08:28 AM

Our 2 Walmarts haven't sold fabric in years.

ggoens 08-14-2011 08:42 AM

A few of our Walmarts here in VA, Petersburg and Chester and one in Richmond have brought fabric and other items back. It is a slow process but I am so glad to see it!

Same here, our closest fabric store (Joann's) is a 5 hr drive 1 way. Our walmart covers many, many small towns here. Plus a school. Last time I was in, they moved the fabric dept and added what I believe to be another row of fabrics. I asked the gal there and she more less said "what you see, is what your going to get. She did not use those words, but, that is the meaning I got from it. Who knows...maybe I will see what happens perhaps 6 or so months from now.

PATTIESPEARL 08-14-2011 10:16 AM

which lawton walmart did you find this in? I shop in both of them but have not found a bargain like that! The one on Quannah Parker Trail had some pre-cuts, but have not been impressed bu the quality of the fabric.

Charleen DiSante 08-14-2011 10:17 AM

Good for you! Maybe they are listening!

Patty it is the walmart on Quanah Parker trailways. They are starting the remodel, that is why there is hardly any pre cuts left. the batting is right across from the precuts and on the end of the counter.
the new fabric dept. should be done within a month:):)

Well I don't know how they define ""RURAL"", Lawton -Fort Sill has a population of 100 000 people. We have 2 walmarts, Joanns,Hobby Lobby and 2 quiltstores, and they are bringing the fabric back in one Walmart.

A woman manager told me "We'll never get fabrics back," about three months before we did. Keep writing WalMart and keep calling your manager. froggyintexas
