Congratulations, it's a high honor to have an eagle scout in your home. My husband and our son are both eagle scouts. It takes a lot of hard work and dedication to get there. Good luck on the quilt. I'm sure it will be a hugh surprise.

Tartan 09-29-2011 04:47 PM

Congrats and have fun! He will be thrilled.

traveler53 09-29-2011 05:05 PM

I have just completed a boy scout quilt for our neighbor's son. He is 14 and is also preparing for Eagle Scout. While I was in Michigan I visited the Mary Maxim store in Port Huron and found more boyscout fabric which was different than my quilt front. So of course, I had to get that too. Now he will have a reversible boyscout quilt!!! I just have to quilt and bind it.

QuiltnLady1 09-29-2011 05:06 PM

What a great thing to make for a very special time in a boy's life!!

isnthatodd 09-29-2011 05:06 PM

Our son is an Eagle, also. Congratulations on all your hard work and dedication (and his, of course)! Be sure to post when it's done.

OneMoreQuilt 09-29-2011 05:08 PM

What a wonderful gift. He will certainly be thrilled.

collady 09-29-2011 05:09 PM

Eagle Scouts make fine men. My son and his two sons are Eagle Scouts!

bkb 09-29-2011 05:46 PM

I was able to make a quilt while the little guy was in school took me 2 days to make a twin size. He did not know I did it! He got it for Christmas 2 yrs ago and has it on his bed year round. Your little guy will love it!

littlehud 09-29-2011 06:19 PM

First, what a wonderful accomplishment for you son. I can't wait to see the quilt. Isn't it wonderful when you find the perfect fabric.

BETTY62 09-29-2011 09:24 PM

Congratulations to your son. Hope you post pictures of the finished quilt.

Krystyna 09-30-2011 02:48 AM

That's wonderful! My son is an Eagle Scout so I know how much work and encouragement YOU put into it!

davis2se 09-30-2011 02:56 AM

How awesome. Congratulations to your son, and I'm sure he will love the quilt.

My son in law was an eagle scout. Last summer I was visiting his mother, and she was getting ready to throw out all of his scout badges, clothes, etc. I was appalled - and snatched it all out of the garbage sack for him. One day I'm hoping that he will ask me to make him a quilt....

Grammie Sharon 09-30-2011 03:05 AM

My son is an Eagle Scout. I'be bought some material too and plan to make a quilt for him. I was thinking of using his class B T shirts and combine that with the scouting material. Does anyone have any pics they could post of a quilt they did?

leatheflea 09-30-2011 03:22 AM

Thats wonderful, my son only made it to a wolfe, before he dropped out.

AUQuilter 09-30-2011 03:52 AM

Congratulations to your son and family for such an achievement! Please post once you have finished. FYI: Robert Kaufman has a free pattern on their website using the Boy Scout fabrics. http://www.robertkaufman.com/quiltin..._scouts_quilt/

WMUTeach 09-30-2011 04:02 AM

Congratulations to your both! My son also is an Eagle and I know the amount of encouragement it takes during that last year for a scout to reach the rank of Eagle. What a goal! My son is now in his mid thirties but still is proud of his achievement. He just stands a little taller and is a little more confident when ever the topic of this level of achievement comes up.

One of my most special moments in life was when he pinned the Mother pin on to my jacket during his ceremony. Have your tissues at hand. You will need them.

The quilt is a marvelous idea. I hope we all get to see it when you finish. I have purchased some scouting fabric to add to a promised quilt for my son that will highlight his interests over time. This quilt is on my "someday soon" list. Congratulations again.

sueisallaboutquilts 09-30-2011 04:06 AM

Congratulations to both of you!! I hope you show us a pic of it.
How exciting!!!!!!!!!! :D:D

I understand. My almost 16 year-old DGS is becoming an Eagle Scout soon too. I asked him if he would like a quilt out of boy scout fabric and he said, "Absolutely NOT!" But my DGD is a girl scout and LOVES her GS quilt I made her.

I bought Boy Scout fabric a couple of weeks ago at Hancocks when I was in Paducah. Soon to be a quilt for my 11 yr old grandson who is involved in scouting. My 7 yr old is also just starting so I see another scout quilt in my future!

Raggiemom 09-30-2011 04:43 AM

What a great gift!

grannypat7925 09-30-2011 04:43 AM

What a great undertaking. It will turn out great and be a cherished item! You must be so proud of him!

Tudey 09-30-2011 04:54 AM

Congratulations on your Eagle Scout! I know making the quilt will bring back many happy memories for you of his growing up years as a Scout.

Angellight 09-30-2011 05:01 AM

Congratulations on your Eagle Scout.
I have 2 and I am very aware of how hard it is for both the scout and his family to achieve this.

Happy Quilting,
Susan

mimee4 09-30-2011 05:54 AM

Congratulations. My son made Eagle as well. What a gift for him.

Anna O 09-30-2011 06:01 AM

That accomplishment is something to be proud of and worthy of a special quilt.

mhansen6 09-30-2011 06:19 AM

Congratulations to your son. That is quite an accomplishment. Please post a picture of your quilt when you are finished.

caspharm 09-30-2011 06:27 AM

Congrats! We have a friend who is BS leader. Her husband asked me about a quilt for her.

jpwagner 09-30-2011 06:28 AM

Congratulations. I made a quilt for my son when he became an Eagle--way before the fabric was available. I depicted a camping scene which I surrounded with blocks that had some meaning regarding his Scout activities--like Crossed Canoes, Milky Way, etc. I borrowed a quilt stand from the guild and had the quilt displayed behind him during the ceremony. Made a nice backdrop for the photos.

ScoutingSquirrel 09-30-2011 06:39 AM

It sounds absolutely wonderful, all of your stories in fact ... the Americans (generalisation, I know!) seem to have so much more pride in their Boy and Girl Scouts than we do in England ... fabric lines and so on as well as the merchandise catalogie that I once upon a time got my hands on and was able to have one order from ...
(My brother was an intern in Washington DC for a year, I was able to place the order before my visit to him! and then bring the goodies back to England)

If any of you wonderful Scouting families ever have any scraps of these special Scouting fabrics then I would be interested ... even if they were only 4" blocks ... Just PM me and I'll pay for shipping using Paypal.

My husband and I met through Scouting and were leaders together for many years before our second boy was born, and the move to Sweden, and our first boy has just joined the Swedish Scouts, at 6 years old, and has had his first campover ... I see Scouty quilts in my future as well! (In fact I'd rather like one for myself ....)

I did one for my Eagle Scout. I put all of his merit badges , etc in the quilt. I used the quilt as his Eagle display at the ceremony. he loved it.

loriea 09-30-2011 06:48 AM

I bought Boy Scout fabric for our 13 year old scout. His dream is to be an Eagle. I have the fabric just have not started it yet. I told myself I need to finish 2 of my 4 ufos before I start anymore. I'm glad I have lots of time before the Eagle...hi ho hi ho its off to so I go...

gramarraine 09-30-2011 07:03 AM
