Hi...this is my first post...I haven't even introduced myself yet. But I wanted to mention that I ordered 10 blades from Harbor Freight's website on 12/21 and received them on 12/24. I was very impressed with the quick turnaround!

TexasSunshine 12-26-2010 01:19 PM

Our Harbor Freight here in NE Texas has had them in stock in the store.

SewExtremeSeams 12-26-2010 02:51 PM

Here's the math:

I just ordered 12 packages of 2 blades each from HF online.

With my state tax and their outrageous shipping price the total came to $35.60.

For 24 blades that works out to $1.48 per blade.

Much less than buying them at Wally World or your LQS.

After placing my order I wrote to the company telling them how extremely high their shipping charges are.

There, now I am done adding my 2 cents worth. :-D :-D

oops 12-26-2010 04:20 PM

I too had problem with a blade from HF. Then I discovered it was my fault. When I couldn't take off the plastic, I used my rotary cutter to cut through the plastic and cardboard. It turned out that I had cut too close and knicked the top blade. I have shots every week and there is a HF nearby. I check it out as often as I can. In past three months I have only managed to find a package twice. But I will keep looking. I would like to get a stash of them . Happy Hunting

Thanks, Oops. I will try another of the blades I got.

lclang 12-26-2010 05:24 PM

Ebay has a lot of blades of all sizes. You do need to check the shipping cost, but I have gotten many blades at very good prices and they were here in just a few days.

QuiltswithConvicts 12-26-2010 06:23 PM

I stumbled on a Harbor Freight when I was up in Albuquerque, next door to a LQS I had been in. They didn't have the blade packs, but I did get a carpet cutter with 3 blades - all for $3.99. I threw the cutter away after taking out the blade. I figured that $1.33 per blade was a bargin compared to $7.49 at Hobby Lobby. Probably should have bought all the cutters while there!!!! I'll get to go back in February and May, so maybe it will be me who buys out the blades! :)

I have not noticed any difference in the blades.

vivianv 12-26-2010 06:28 PM

It took a while, but I ordered them on line and was able to get 10 pkgs.

I ordered online from HF, and was sent a postcard that they were on back order - well that was SIX months ago, still havent' got them. My DH stops in at HF all the time, and picks me up a couple packages each time, he does leave some for the next husband.

carole7481 12-26-2010 06:39 PM

Even with postage the Harbor Freight blades are still much cheaper than LQS. I have not had any problems with them skipping.

Calico Grammy 12-26-2010 06:42 PM

My HF clerk says he can't keep them in stock because they are shop lifted. Can't imagine~~~I told him they certainly wern't quilters!!!!

mary hennessey 12-26-2010 09:17 PM

what is a slotted ruler?Mary

grandma sue 12-26-2010 09:23 PM

My store was out too so I ordered them online. Took about a month or so to get them (I even forgot about them). But I haven't tried them yet.

gale 12-26-2010 09:43 PM

I've had sporadic luck with my HF blades. The first one fine but lasted less than one quilt's worth of cutting. The second was junk right from the get-go. It kept feeling like I was rolling it over a bump, like a fold in the fabric. So I tried it without any fabric and it still felt like it was rolling over a bump plus it skipped in a lot of places. The third is in my cutter now. I've used it for about 16 blocks' worth of squaring up and it's starting to skip. I have to run it over the fabric 3 or 4 times before it gets it all the way cut. So I don't think I'll bother buying them there anymore. I'll wait for a coupon or a sale at J's.

btw I did not use any kind of blade or scissors to open the pkg so I know the blade wasn't nicked, at least not by me.

Farm Quilter 12-26-2010 11:24 PM

I got really lucky...about a year ago I bought 45 packages of rotary blades on eBay...a mix of 28mm, 45mm and 60mm blades, all packs of 5, for $25.00. Since I use all three blades I figured it was a good deal, especially since most of the packages were 45mm. Since then, I've paid attention to the prices of blades and know I got a super deal on my Olfa blades!

pieces 12-27-2010 05:02 AM

That seems rather rude to me as well. I bought 2 packs when I went to HF. I always want to leave some for others.

ConnieF 12-27-2010 05:55 AM

did you tighten the screw down to tight so the blade dosen't roll well, that will make it skip....

Dandish 12-27-2010 06:00 AM

Thanks for the heads up! My DH and I went to Harbor Freight yesterday - they had about 10 packs of the blades hanging up and I bought 5 - haven't tried them yet. I also found the micro vacuum attachment pack so I can really clean out my machines! (learned about it from another thread on this most excllent board!) DH thought it was funny I wanted to go to HF, he got a kick out of it. ;)

I did find something that had three blades in it,not telling that person might go in and buy all of those to.

Do others feel that when a person sees something they want to buy, and it's worth the price charged, that 'some should be left for others?' To be honest, it has never occurred to me. If I'm there, I don't even think of other shoppers who might come later.
If I go into Joann's for 2 yds of a fabric, find out that leaves 1/2 yard on the bolt that they sell at a cheaper price, I usually buy it, not thinking I'm depriving someone else.

Donnasue 12-27-2010 10:19 AM

Connie, send me a pm. I think I can help you with your dilemma.

I've tried it with several different levels of tightness but it doesn't help. I never had trouble with the tightness of my regular blades though.

tjradj 12-27-2010 12:16 PM

I've been having luck lately finding brand name rotary cutters in dollar and surplus stores.
Last week I was in a "army" surplus store that also has a craft aisle (I think so ladies will go into the store) and found Fiskars rotary cutters on for 4.99. They were basic handles with a blade, but the handle had a pretty pattern on it and the Name of a 'artist line'. Kind of like buying a "Martha Stewart" branded item instead of a plain one.
So, I bought 3. One can never have too many backups. Right?

Connie in CO 12-27-2010 12:31 PM

I'm in shock,So sweet,Donnasue from the board PMed me and she was going to send me a Christmas gift of some of her cutting blades, wasn't that nice of her?So i just wanted everyone to know, you ladies and gentlemen of this board are the greatest

Judie 12-27-2010 06:22 PM

I got tired of going into my local Harbor Freight to look for blades.. they never have any.. was told as soon as a few packages come in they are gone. I was able to buy 2 packages about last August or so.. I'm still using that first blade.. They were backordered until sometime in October, but I don't think there has been any trouble getting them from the website since they got them from their supplier. I just ordered what I wanted from the website and even with Shipping they are much cheaper than the LQS!! MUCH cheaper!

misoop 12-28-2010 02:51 PM

Me, too.....they work just great in my Olfa cutter. I love the price!!!

oops 12-28-2010 03:26 PM

Finally today at HF there were more than one package.

This was Greenville SC
Sorry I don't feel guilty for taking all five packages.
As many trips as I made there, I felt like I earned them.
That will keep me for a long time.
So I won't squirel away anymore.

Not true: I have the slit ruler and the harbor freight blade work just fine in the ruler. Just saying

also if you happen to put two blades in the cutter, that will cause problems to. Sounds silly I know but it does happen. Good luck

I can vouch for the 2 blade thing. Don't ask me how I know  Makes for a LOT of lint too!

gale 01-01-2011 06:56 PM

Definitely one blade in it.

oops 01-01-2011 07:07 PM

Have patience Dina. Not sure how many times I went before I found them. Also ask what day they come in.

Harbor Freight is our favorite store too. It's the only store I don't have to beg hubby to go to.

Connie in CO 01-02-2011 05:55 AM

I just wish ours wasn't 2 hours away.

Airwick156 01-02-2011 06:35 AM

Interesting that they are called Carpet Cutter Blades.

Ritas Relics 01-02-2011 05:26 PM

I am wondering what you use to sharpen your scissors?

Most quilt shops have that service. Check with them.
