Quilting is not an Addiction . Nor anything that is needed to quilt by. It is Thearpy Now lets tell ourselfs that so we all have good selfaseem(?). We give most of what we make away and that makes us feel good. Quilting is Relaxation so it is a form of stress releaf. It is cheaper than going to see someone. We get out more. We talk to more people. So can you add more to this list so Quilting is not an Addiction? We could be doing a lot worse. OH Ya When I get into my Quilting I don't stop for anything so I don't eat. There for I loose weight. Good for my health.

So, now I will tell hubby I'm in my Therapy room (aka Sewing room). NOW if this is therapy why can't I get a DR to give me a prescription to buy more fabric, notions, and books, etc, etc. Then I could write off all this as a "medical expense".   |

Quilting is Relaxation so it is a form of stress releaf.... .... can you add more to this list so Quilting is not an Addiction? We could be doing a lot worse.... And since it's the answer, I think FEDERAL BAILOUT MONEY should be given to each and every quilter in America! After all, then we can buy more fabric, more tools, more machines. This puts more people back to work making fabrics, tools and machines, selling those same fabrics, tools and machines. Quilting is a win-win-win solution to EVERYTHING! And I dare the politicians to disagree with me! Odessa |
Definitely works for me. The quilters of the world Unite...we can jump start the economy...give us fantastic fabric and we will buy. Think I'll get a Rx...lowered my BP and colestrol (sp)
|
I got into quilt for the very reason listed. I did need the therapy. So all true.

Quilting is very relaxing to me, starting with the browsing through the fabric shops, washing and ironing my new fabrics, then cutting the pieces out and sewing them back together. The only think I don't care for in the whole process is basting the 3 layers together--once that job is done then it's back to enjoying the rest.

Yes, yes yes. Therapy not an addiction.
You are so right. Between quilting and reading my days are not stressful at all. |
It's called "rationalizing" and how right you are! Very expensive therapy. I went to "group therapy" the other night and am booked for two more sessions next month.

I LOVE :D :D :D the way you all think!!! :D :D :D

We are contributing to the art world.
We keep people warm. We are creative. AND (when we use small scraps) We are recycling. |
Good therapy IS expensive!
|
I agree with everyone. I'm a much happier person when I get to quilt.

Cabbagepatchkid, try the basting spray. I use it even for very large quilts, but then I hand quilt and use a small quilt frame that I'm always moving and straightening out the fabric underneath. I don't know how it would work for machine quilting. Any commentson that?

I have to say it is also good for the heart in general. I live with only half a heart physically and a computer implant to keep me going. Dr has learned that when he downloads my computer the times when I have been quilting. Not only is my pressure lower but my breathing rate and pulse are also down. And the emotional part of the heart knows we are doing something for someone else; whether it is a new baby, a homeless person, new bride, a preemie, or for a charity to auction. I have called Quilting my Stress Valve for a number of years and my Dr agrees. He is also a recipient of lap quilt for his office. Of course he is a Cowboys fan so I did his in his teams logo. We still have to teach him to be a Broncos fan. Go Quilters!!!!!

Creating and letting your artistic self go always feels good!

sylslight, I thought that was a river in Egypt. <ggggg>

With an addiction you can not give things away. You hord them. Every thing I make I make for someone eles. And love to do it.

I don't think I would have made it through my son's two year struggle and death from cancer without something to keep my mind occupied. He passed on New Year's Day 2008 leaving a wife and thirteen year old daughter. I worked on a Quilt that I titled "Thru My Tears"and have it put away to eventually give to my g'daughter.
Believe me, life is not easy -- or fair -- and there are times our hobbies literally can save our lives. As a retired Psych Nurse, I felt like I had "to put my money where my mouth was" after talking about positive coping skills for years. So Everyone --- Remember --- Keep on Piecing........ |
I like your thinking.....I can relate to all of it except the losing weight part

I thought I was the only one who sat at my machine until the job was done....I hate to drink to much because I'll haft to get up. There are times when I'm working and it's getting late and the seam ripper is getting a work out......I get it done go to bed. Come back the next day and what look what took me an additional hour was a mnistake that never would have happend if I was not so tired and determined to finish. Us quilters are silly and I wouldn't want to be any other way.

Quilting and quilting people are just super great. If we could mend the world problems like beautiful quilt blocks living together in harmony giving warmth, love and protection from bad things and cold this would be a dream come true. Change starts like a ripple in the water. As quilters we can do our part and show the world that colors and patterns can live side by side.
|
okay, i hope you all know i was trying to be funny. ok, so maybe being a non- addict is not so bad, lol. anyway, we all love to do it and the only thing we *might* hurt is our budget....which i have NEVER done   ever. lol!!! ok, off to work! have a great time feeding your thereapy, lol
oh, and if sylslight is a river, i bet its a really nice one...just like me!!! lol :D |
I total cheat on that basting stuff. I spray bast. It is a lot easier, most the time quicker, and you can fix your mistakes before they happen a lot of the time. So it is all therapy for me. I would be totally nuts if I were not able to create something.

I taught quilting for years and part of my intro was that quilting is therapy. However, as far a diet is concerned I feel that basic supplies include diet soda and M & M's are necessary equipment. If you have a craving for popcorn while watching a movie, put it into a large bowl and eat it with a soup spoon to avoid getting it on your hands.
Enjoy! Ziggy's Mom PS--I don't teach any more, except for my grandchildren. These days I just quilt for people I love. :D |
