This is the one I was thinking about. I haven't tried it but it looks like it would be a neat finish. Because it is a single layer of fabric, I don't think it would wear as well as a traditional folded binding on a regular quilt but would work well where there is less stress and wear on the edges (napkins, place-mats, small wall-hangings, etc.)

Are you talking about bringing the backing to the front and having mitered edges that you top stitch by Maxine? If so, that is the technique used with the Creative Grids Quick Trim Ruler.

I use a 'binding mitre' tool. You get sewn corners, not the folded one.

I guess I'm boring, but just do the same thing everyone else does.Stitch to the back, having ironed it in half, down the middle. Sometimes I stuff the binding though. I cut some felted type stuffing 1/4" wide and place it on the inside layer. It makes a nice, flat, yet full look. They lay down anyway and look flat.

Maybe you should try the "double mitered binding" . I am using it on a king size quilt. You have to finish each corner separately but it really makes a nice mitered corner. No little humps, bumps, seams in the corner to sew, etc. The instructions were on here (the quilt board) in February, I think. search for that topic. I think you will like this way to miter.
