I wonder if you're referring to a binding like this:

http://www.pieceandquilt.com/2009/06...-tutorial.html

The tutorial is for a receiving blanket but would work for a quilt as well. You could Google "self-binding quilt" to get more information.

This is the one I was thinking about. I haven't tried it but it looks like it would be a neat finish. Because it is a single layer of fabric, I don't think it would wear as well as a traditional folded binding on a regular quilt but would work well where there is less stress and wear on the edges (napkins, place-mats, small wall-hangings, etc.)

Are you talking about bringing the backing to the front and having mitered edges that you top stitch by Maxine? If so, that is the technique used with the Creative Grids Quick Trim Ruler.

I use a 'binding mitre' tool. You get sewn corners, not the folded one.

I guess I'm boring, but just do the same thing everyone else does.Stitch to the back, having ironed it in half, down the middle. Sometimes I stuff the binding though. I cut some felted type stuffing 1/4" wide and place it on the inside layer. It makes a nice, flat, yet full look. They lay down anyway and look flat.

Maybe you should try the "double mitered binding" . I am using it on a king size quilt. You have to finish each corner separately but it really makes a nice mitered corner. No little humps, bumps, seams in the corner to sew, etc. The instructions were on here (the quilt board) in February, I think. search for that topic. I think you will like this way to miter.

Not sure if I am going to describe this correctly, but I saw a quilt that had binding where the corners didn't have the little fold. It looked like the finish I might find on napkins or placemats. So I have been doing all sorts of "googling" trying to word it correctly and have not found anything yet. Obviously I can't figure out how to do this, so am in need of some assistance. Thanking replies in advance.

Check double mitered binding on the Feb. 20, 2012 post from Mad Quilter. She or he had a PDF file and pictures.

I do know what you are talking about I've seen it also. I don't know what it's called ,but if I find it I
will let you know.I think someone on Nancy Zieman's show did it. :)
